Lou Holtz (Official Thread)

Mark May of all people just called out lou following the clemson game. Holtz once again brought up nd and you could see a smirk on mays face. As soon as May got a chance to speak, he laughed and asked lou if he'd ever make it through a segment without bringing up nd.

:yow1: Really? See, sometimes I like May for things like that and other times I think he's a moron for saying USC would blow the greatest teams out of the water when they can't even blow out a team that didn't win the WAC.

I watched ESPN last night for the 2 bowl games that were on. (at least ASU and Rutgers was a fun game) They had a segment where they had Lou Holtz talk about rebuilding a program. Am I wrong or is South Carolina under intense investigation for violations while Holtz was there? I find it tasteless that ESPN would have a guy who might have violated NCAA rules running a program talk about rebuilding one. Another checkmark against ESPN in my opinion.

Holtz has left almost every program being investigated, leave it ESPN to hire someone like that.

This is just showing that the visor liked to run up the score. I see he was allowed to replay the team he lost to. AFTER HAVING JUST LOST TO THEM IN THE FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME! And they call that a mNc? It also shows them laying 55 points on a AA school.
But with all of USCs weapons at his disposal, I don't think Spurious would have racked up many more points: He wouldn't have 2 1,000 yard rushers. IMO he would have started White instead of Bush.
On the flip side, Florida would (have I used "would" too many times?) have had a better defense. The visor usually had decent defenses.

IIRC Jim Tressel hasn't given up 37 points since arriving at Ohio State (except I remember the 44-38 game against NC State, but that was 3 OTs...a game that was 24-24 at end of regulation.)

And no offense to Notre Dame...but we've played better offenses since Tressel has been here...and we've had worse defenses since Tressel's been here. If we score 34 points...we win! Hands down. If Texas couldn't hang 30 on us...there's no way in hell Notre Dame will.

Bingo. In regulation, we gave up 34 to Illinois and 31 to South Carolina in 2001, 35 at Michigan in 2003, and 33 at Northwestern and Iowa in 2004, but this defense right now is light years ahead of 2001's defense, last year's defense, and the defense that played at Michigan in 2003. Notre Dame will be lucky to crack 20 points.

When Mark May (I can't stand him, either) asked Holtz what quality teams did Notre Dame defeat this year, Holtz responded with...

1) Pitt
2) Navy
3) Syracuse

:slappy:

You're lying. There's no way someone can be so stupid. One of my cats who is kind of ditzy and has no idea what football is could tell me that's extremely pathetic. Syracuse went 1-10, Pitt went 5-6, and I believe Navy went something like 7-5 or something around there. That's a combined 13-21 record. Can you tell me what their reactions were after he said that? Bring in Robert Smith!
