LOTR, Hobbit geek-fest

Do you guys know if they're going to re-release the last movie? I couldn't get to the theater to see it last year, and it would be fun to see it on the big screen.
They were considering a 3D release of Deathly Hallows Pt 1 but nixed it thankfully. I don't know much beyond that.

The Scouring is addressed in [strike]ROTK[/strike]FotR when Frodo looked in the Mirror of Galadriel. I think they changed it to make it look like an alternate future that would happen if the mission was unsuccessful.
FIFY, and that's obviously not going to satisfy a lot of people.

The extended versions sometimes aren't even tolerable. Large parts we're left out of the theater cuts - The Mouth of Sauron, the Scourging of the Shire, Aragorn's ancestry (and not being of "normal" age) The fellowship encountering the Demigod after Moria... etc etc.

Plus a few other key battles. I.E. Amon Hen

I guess I'll be the lone point of dissension and say that outside of a few issues with The Two Towers, I found the entire trilogy of films absolutely amazing in almost every way. I've read the trilogy countless times, the Silmarillion, and assorted other Middle Earth history books and done papers on Tolkien and his work; and I cannot imagine a more stunning and perfect representation of that world in motion picture form that would be watchable for any but the most hardcore fans like the few of us having this discussion.

And then there are the soundtracks from Howard Shore...pure musical bliss! Annie Lennox's performance of "Into the West" brings water to my eyes every time, as does the final few scenes of RoTK. I am hard-pressed to find any flaw or complaint with the music, and the trek scenes do indeed feature the absolute best "trek music" I have ever heard put to a movie.

Now, back to the actual topic...I have my tickets for the midnight premier of Pirates 4, and can't wait! For all of the movies I've wanted to see midnight premiers of (LOTR, mainly), this will only be my second midnight premier ever, the other being TS3 followed by being in the enormous crush of people waiting for Potter to open at Universal the next morning.

The Balrog was in Moria. He said after Moria. No biggee, but I thought I'd ask.

And so we're clear, I am WAAAAAY more nerdly about Tolkien than that pic. I have all the supplemental books Christopher published posthumously, I have the Father Christmas Letters, I have Roverandom, I have The Tale of the Children of Hurin. All of it.

I even have the NECA Balrog action figure, and the Toybiz 6" Gandalf on the little stand that shouts, "You shall not pass!"

Honestly. It's a miracle I ever got laid.

I never would have guessed we had so many Tolkien nuts on here.

I have now found something I could actually discuss with everyone on fairly equal footing, since I'm an amateur at sports talk compared to most of you.

Oh, and Knapp, I can't give you anymore rep at the moment, otherwise, you would have a long message next to another greenie.

If you're a reader and you don't mind the fantasy genre, LOTR is the best there is. If fantasy isn't your thing it may not be for you.

The trilogy is dark and starts a little slow. You have to want it. But when you get into it, when they get to Moria, you're hooked. Return of the King is a masterpiece.

Are you talking about the Hobbit? Because I said earlier I read the LOTR Trilogy after I saw the movies. I've read the book 3 or 4 times since seeing the movies.

I've never read The Hobbit though.
