Los Angeles Lakers (17x NBA Champions)

Well shit. What a wasted opportunity with the Spurs losing today.

Yep, spurs take a half game lead in the west. I think the Lakers kind of needed an ass kicking though, getting beat by a team that, has in the past, had some hard slander on them may be enough to get them back to defensive basics.

Gotta agree with you there. I didn't get to see it, but I don't have to see it to know that 71 points allowed in the first half is just awful.

Well, if you look at the past 4 games they have played they have started slow, passed around too much, committed a lot of turn overs and then come back in the fourth quarter. This reminds me of the championship team, and, even though I loved those championships, those fourth quarter comebacks were frustrating as a fan.

Artest wasn't on the court in the fourth quarter, and another thing, this is a Kings team that hadn't won a single game in the pacific, they were 0-8, and they just had their way with the Lakers for the first half. The guys need to get back to the basics, yes, they are good enough to play around like the globetrotters, but that doesn't mean they should. As a fan, I want them to force their will on them in the first half, and then extend that lead in the second half. They don't seem to have a problem doing that against good teams, when they played the Suns they took the lead and just held it, even though the game got close, I could tell it was just a Lakers shot or two away from being back under control, tonight, not so much.

I love how they say "Kobes average in the last 7 games VS the raptors is 39" well, when you score 81 against them that helps that average a little bit.

Good win tonight, we needed something to go on the road with, the next 4 games are going to be rough:

@ New Orleans
@ Houston
@ Dallas
@ Utah

That's 4 playoff teams on the road, the 9 game roadie was a test, but I think this will be their biggest test of the year.

Besides not having Dallas and PHX on that list those is the toughest stretch of possible games...LA should be happy with a 2-2 record coming out of those 4...

"LA should be happy with a 2-2 record coming out of those 4"

my exact thought when i first read that. thats a tough stretch but if these guys want to play into june they have to at worst go 2-2. i believe the pieces are there for us to make a run to a title. i love the second unit on this club. the energy turiaf plays with is a breath of fresh air.

Well, they do end with a 2-2 record, with the two best home teams in the league being the teams they beat. I will admit, after Gasol went down two minutes into the first game, I was really concerned and my thoughts were "Oh crap, welcome to 6th place" but they did what they had to do to win. We have a few games before Gasol is back, but if they play the way they did tonight and people are actually hitting shots, we should be good.

For the rest of the Lakers fans, what did you think when Gasol went down? To me the team showed a lot of heart, guys stepped up and showed they want to win, and they have the ability to do so.

Another piece of news, we might have Bynum back in the next couple weeks, the thought of Gasol and Bynum together on the court really makes me smile, especially if we can make it happen before the playoffs so they all get time to know each other. A starting five of Bryant, Fisher, Odom, Gasol and Bynum might actually be able to knock off the Celtics.
