The Lakers missing the playoffs is a hilarious and real possibility at this point. Even if they squeeze in it's going to be a futile and quick first round exit as a 8/7 Seed.

54 games in and they are only 2 games better than the Mavs (who won 24 games last season) and behind the Kings (27 wins last year)

a 42 point loss to Oladipo-less Pacers is below even Cavs level.

Can't wait till LeBron trades all the young players for aging over the hill role players. That'll really get the train rolling.

Just curious....what makes a playoff miss hilarious? Nobody really expected big things until next year IMO.

Before the season they were at least projected to make the playoffs. Completely missing them is a huge flop IMO.

How big can things possibly get next year?

They bring in maybe 1 other star?

That makes them what a a 6-8 seed in the West?

I think the list of people wanting to go to the Lakers with LeBron is also a lot shorter than most people think.

The first 2 years of his career.

He's taken much much worse Cavs teams to the playoffs in the past. The west now is a lot tougher than the east in that time, but to say them not making it at all isnt a flop is kind of ridiculous. Nobody expected them to win the title this year but they were at least expected to be better than this.

Part of the problem, much as it was with some of his less competitive Cavs teams is that they have a poorly contructed roster. Having LeBron makes Ball essentially redundant as a primary ball-handler. And Ball is a lousy scorer and shooter, so he adds little value. Like the Cavs, they've tried plugging other holes with bargain-bin vets like Stephenson, Rondo, Beasley, McGee and Caldwell-Pope. Another HUGE problem, and you saw it in their blowout loss last night, is that management (and LeBron) appear to have alienated their role players, and the promising young guys they have like Kuzma and Ingram. Why should they give a shit if it's getting leaked that LeBron and Magic are trying to trade them?

LeBron is a great player, but he's proven time and again, he's not a very good teammate. He angles to get teammates traded and coaches fired, and has done so his entire career. To make matters worse, he's in his-mid-30s now and has been a very physical player his entire career. He's already missed significant time this season, and it's a safe bet that will occur pretty frequently going forward regardless of his conditioning. With the amount of playoff games he's played, he has the body of a guy in his late-30s. He's in his 16th year, but you can add the game equivalent of another 3-4 years from the playoffs. He's not gonna play 80 games a year anymore, and may struggle to get to 65-70. LA has a small window to get a ring with him and they probably need to add 2 more superstars to get in that realm.

Have to go with everyone on this, it’s ridiculous that a team with LBJ will likely miss the playoffs. If you look back at Jordan, 13 years in Chicago, 13 playoff appearances, and if you look at those early teams, the rosters make some of the Cavs teams look like the 92 Dream Team by comparison. They had a couple of zero time all-stars as their second and third best players.

This is what I always bring up to the dingbat Lakers fan I work with.

The window with LeBron is not very wide, considering his age and mileage. Even if 2/3 years down the line they end up with 2 other "stars" along side him, at that point it probably still doesnt get them over the hill in the West, unless all other teams around start steep declines.

Next year it's likely not happening, unless they pull some trades that would essentially gut the rest of the roster and leave them reeling for cheap secondary players. Which isnt going to win them the title either.

Though i'd find it comical if LeBron left the Lakers in a bigger crater than they were before they added him. Seems like that may end up being the case.
