Los Angeles Lakers (17x NBA Champions)

Ariza fit in much better with the Lakers than Artest does. He added energy and more length to their defense. Artest might show up for the playoffs, but right now you have to question that move.

This wasn't a trade, Ariza wanted more money than the Lakers wanted to pay, he was a free agent.

The Lakers chose to pick up Artest, who came and played for the same they were offering Ariza.

And then Ariza took the same amount of money to play for the Rockets. Even at the time I thought that the Lakers should have kicked in a little over the MLE to resign Ariza. He had to know he wasn't getting more than the MLE from any other team. I blame the Lakers and Ariza for not working it out.

Actually, I blame Trevors agent, it seemed that he sort of put a "This is what we will take, or we are going elsewhere" and well, he's now on a sub-500 team. I would have preferred to keep Ariza, he's younger and has more years on him, but Artest isn't a bad replacement.

Artest was considered an upgrade by most analyst during the offseason, which has simply not been the case this year. I will agree that Artest was not a bad replacement, but definitely not an upgrade. If LA would have waited it out they would have been able to sign him. I am pretty sure Artest was offered the same day that Ariza declined the MLE.

Yes, he was offered the same day, Ariza was being shopped around, the Lakers needed a forward. I find it funny we are having this discussion about a team that's in first place in the west. I would understand if someone could say "man, last year they won it all, this year they will be lucky to make the playoffs"

The Lakers are way too deep into the Luxury tax right now with horrible contracts (Walton and Sasha for example) So they took someone they knew was a good defender and a decent shooter. If you look at that starting line up, there's not a lot of shots to go around, so anyone in that spot isn't going to be a scoring machine.

I completely agree with you, but I am just saying most analyst were all over Artest coming in and Ariza leaving. They loved Orlando and LA's moves, and questioned the Shaq move. Right now, I feel that Cavs were upgraded the most out of the top three contenders.

Heh, I knew Shaq would be a good fit, he knows how to win championships, he knows the mentality it takes, the Cavs have all the pieces, they just needed to toughen up and get that confidence Shaq brings.

Such a shame that he started getting the fat and lazy attitude in LA. Would have been no doubt who the team of the decade would've been then. Oh well...

ESPN insider is claiming the Lakers are trying to make some trades...

I'm assuming they're going to try and dump Sasha and Walton's stupid contracts...but any idea what they're going to try and pick up? PG is pretty set, Shannon Brown does a pretty good job backing up Kobe...

I could see them maybe going after a more consistent knock down shooter at the 3 position.

Trading Sasha and Luke for a rock would be a fucking upgrade at this point, at least the Rock wouldn't turn the ball over or toss up shots from anywhere on the court.

Yes, Walton has been living off of that one playoff series for entirely too long. And Sasha, he's just lost all of his mojo. It's too bad they didn't get traded when their value was highest.
