Los Angeles Lakers (17x NBA Champions)

That could be the case. However, I think the likelihood is greater that the West will simply put a beat down even in a "tired" state.

I'm a West fan... being a Suns fan. But let's be real here... The Celtics are THE TEAM TO BEAT. They rolled the Lakers 110-91 at the Staples Center... and won 107-94 in the Garden.

I don't think either game is much of a litmus for what would occur now. They both occurred in 2007, and Pau wasn't a part of the Lakers yet. That's JMHO.

i can't wait until the SoS fad is dead and burried.

Just exactly how is a team's schedule NOT a deciding factor on validity?

Let's evaluate some things:

1) Winning percentage of teams in playoffs:

East: 0.584 average
West: 0.662 average.

Almost 8 percentage points higher in winning percentage for the West.

2) Range of winning percentage of teams in playoffs:

East: 0.354
West: 0.085

Over four times closer in percentage.

Considering recent history, I would say that SoS is not a fad in the NBA; but instead, a pretty good marker as to how things will end up.

I am going to agree here, the Celtics have the team to beat this year and the Lakers really have nothing they can say on the matter. They games weren't even fun to watch.

Do you not agree though that two games played in 2007 have little-to-no relevance to where things could go right now? The Lakers are now 23-5 with Gasol. That's a huge difference.

I won't say they have no relevance.

The reality is that we still were in the Triangle offense, they did beat us with Bynum, Gasol may be a better shooter but the formula isn't much different.

Time will tell, I am not ready to start preparing for Boston yet as there's still a lot of playoff games to go.

Understood.

I should clarify that I'm not looking to christen anyone as being the NBA champion nor am I saying that the Western division champion is a shoe-in. I just have to admit that I'm not as impressed with the Celtics as some others are. I've always liked KG's game, but I've never seen him really step up in the post season. Allen's got one of the most beautiful shots I've ever seen so I won't take anything away from him. I've considered Pierce over-rated since he was at Kansas. I just don't like his game. Rondo is performing well. And I don't know much about the rest of their team. I just haven't been overly impressed in the scant games that I've seen them play this year. Their competition may be lackluster, because the Celts play very good D. I don't know. Anyway... time to discontinue the meaningless ramblings.

Good game tonight, though I did think they came out at the beginning of the third really lazy but they cleaned it up. Kobe on Smith was some of the funniest crap I have seen in a long time, Smith talking trash and Kobe eating him for breakfast. Let's hope they can get this done over the next two games and get a nice rest for round 2.
