Looking Forward - Making the BP Mock Draft Easier

I think a clock would be good. There are several different ways it can be run, and I'm sure someone will have an epiphany. Delays in picks seemed to be the biggest frustration last year.

One thing that I could suggest that might just be too much of a pain in the ass to do is this. Have someone who is the designated "Paul Tagliabue" for the pick that is on the clock, send a text message or email to the person who is supposed to be making the pick. It might be a little tedious to do but instead of having people gripe, and pick out of order, give a 30 minute time frame on a specific day for the pick to be made and have the designated commish available during that time to receive the pick via email, instant message or posted on this forum. I know sounds like a huge pain in the ass but it might be a way to make it a bit more organized for those people who dont have access to a computer all day.

I am not blameless in this.

However, I feel it is only right that I voice my concern that the original thrust of this thread has become diverted.

The thread was intended to become a sounding board for ideas that might make this years Mock Draft a smoother, more attractive and overall more enjoyable and inclusive experience for the membership here at Buckeye Planet.

I have concerns that this original intent has become diverted.

I have communicated my concerns to a moderator.

There have been good ideas posted into this thread. I don't want those to be lost.

All too often though the reaction has been to make a carve out of territory for rights to call the draft on behalf of a pro team a particular member follows. I have been guilty of that failing - to make a positive example, I personally relinquish the pre-emptive calling on behalf of the Bengals at this time.

I wish to see good ideas prosper concerning the development of an improved BP Mock Draft. I also do not wish to quell enthusiasm shown by early respondents to this thread , after all, you are likely exactly the folk we need to make for a vibrant and speedy BP Mock Draft come April of this year.

For the moment I humbly implore you all to disabuse yourselves of the urge to select a team to which you wish to be aligned. Fear not, there is plenty of time for such declarations of interest to be made real.

Clarifying posts and threads may be generated shortly. I ask for your patience in the meantime.

What if there was a "sign up" for the pro team that you would like to represent in the draft. Any member could put their name in for a random drawing that would be held at a specified date to determine the team "manger". That way it wouldn't just be first come first serve. Just my two cents.

I'm with Mothra on the idea of having a fair selection process for the teams where multiple people would be interested. I think we should set aside the discussion on who takes what team until later. Some people who aren't around may be interested as we get closer to the draft. Others who are interested now may lose interest or may be unable to participate.

So I suggest we focus more on ways to improve the draft process. There were a lot of problems and delays last year, and I'm sure it drove BN27 crazy at times.

is there any sort of existing web-based system out there? Probably not, but it might be worth looking into (like something on espn, etc).

When this all comes together, sign me up for the Rams. Since I live in tha Loo now, I may as well draft for them. See if I can get them back on track. If I'm drafting for them, can I name their next coach too?

If we are on first come first serve as far as teams, then I'll take the Packers.

Maybe we should have some sort of draft order as far as who gets to pick what teams though...and I also think those that participated last year should have first dibs on being a part of it again this year.

As far as speed of the draft, personally I didn't mind the wait. It was kind of fun...anticipation. Maybe we should just start earlier.

"You two, over there. sandgk just got finished saying not to declare what team you want, and you two go ahead and do it anyways. You want me to demote you to the last picks in every round? Cuz I can do that.....I'm Paul Fucking Tagliabue god dammit."

Paul...you may want to realize that it's Super Bowl XL this year, not XXXVI...but it doesn't matter, cuz the Pats are gonna win this one too.

And i don't read threads, I just post on impulse and what I think should be said...

Heck Im in I will be the Raiders if no one else wants them.

I also think its not such a bad idea to have "group ownership" for the draft if we can get enough people wanting the same teams.

Group ownership is not a bad idea, as lond as someone is the 'GM' and the others are assistants.
Make a sticky with every team and people can join and the list would be constantly updated.
