Looking for new clubs?

Golf Equipment?

I know we've discussed this before, but I couldn't find the thread by searching golf. Right now I have Big Bertha irons and am thinking of getting a set of X-18's. I have way too much loft on my irons right now and I've been told the X-18's would help with that. I took a few practice shots with an X-18 6 iron yesterday and it felt pretty good. Has anyone ever used X-18's or have any advice for me?

What do you all use or like?

Agree with JimOtis. I would HIGLY recommend the Golf Galaxy at Tuttle. I bought my King Cobra irons there and they were very helpful. Plus, they generally have a good selection of very nice, used clubs that can save you a lot of $$, assuming you don't mind your clubs not being virgins......

Sorry I didn't want my clubs connected to SIMV's in any way. This merge is going to set my golf game back 5 years minimum. :p

hawg,

I'm by no means a golf pro but the thing you need to watch out for when buying off of the rack is that the shafts may not be tailored to your swing speed. I have a medium to high swing speed so in turn need stiffer-shafted clubs.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people always wanting to buy the newest, biggest Driver and then the shaft is so flimsy, they can't keep it in the zip code when hitting it.

You can have your swing speed measured for free at Golfsmith on their machine. That helped guide me in purchasing a new driver a few years ago. I bought a used Taylor Made for $100.

I now own my first driver with a graphite shaft. But I use my 3 wood of the tee more often that not. It has a steel shaft.

Golf Galaxie will let you look at clubs but that is kinda like looking at cars on the lot and not going for a test drive. You can see what they look like but you have to take them out and see how they feel on the road.

There are a number of outside ranges that will have demo days when Hogan, Titleist, Calaway, Ping and Cleveland will come in and let you beat the shit out of their clubs for free. IMO it is the only way that you will get a good fit. They will test your swing speed and launch angle along with the spin rates of diff clubs, then you can make an educated guess as to what club will work best.

Call around and find out when a demo day is and check it out. Time well spent.

Or you can just say fuck it and swing hard from the top with your right hand...

Hawg-

Not to place blame elsewhere, but what about your golf swing? Irons are of all degrees of loft, but are fairly consistent throughout the market.

I think you need to take a lesson witha golf professional and have them analyze your swing. They could tell you if new clubs would solve your problem or if you need to tweak your swing.

I know whenever I start skying my irons that I'm breaking my wrists too early on the follow-through when my wrists should be leading the clubhead throughout the entire swing.

I don't want to see you spending a lot of money on something that might not solve your problem.
