Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Lolz…..I mean, I guess it’s smart. Just get a huge bag on the table to start with so you can set the bar with the real players.
Jim Lachey said on the radio today that he would have entered the portal every year if it were around then to get the most out OSU each year.

Just because one enters the portal does not necessarily mean that they want to leave.

Players have all of the leverage and should use it until guidelines are put in place.

I mean, agreed.

I think it’s pretty well known Leavitt is going to one of three schools, depending on Dante Moore’s decision.

KY is a solid first visit because they’ll come heavy knowing they aren’t a serious contender unless they make a MASSIVE offer by NIL standards. It’ll be nice to walk into Eugene, LSU, and Miami with a sizable offer for them to work off of.

I would encourage every player to look around or at least be clear in what offers they were getting. It gives you intel on the market and how you are doing as a team.

You should be wanting to constantly learn and improve on ways to make your package of comp and culture a place that most guys will not leave.

Turns you into a talent destination, not just a place to work (and I think Day has done a great job of this).

We were never going to utilize his best skill anyway. Hopefully he goes out of conference and not to someone like Indiana or something.

Very intrigued with what we do. Starting tomorrow the portal officially opens and you have to think we are going to be adding kids within this first week.

On defense you have to add 2-4 kids with two being can’t miss starters. I’d argue you need to add potentially a LB and a Safety too. I know they like the safety kids but if there’s someone out there better than what we have we need to add someone that can make up for the drop off of Downs.

I’m in the minority here in this but I think we need to add another WR or two. This offense returns everyone next year so imo make it unfair to teams. Imagine rolling out Smith, Innis, Coleman and then adding Chris Henry to the fold. No one has the CB depth to stop that.

The more I calm down from yesterday the more I think we are going to be fine on the OL. IMO you move Moore to starting LT and push Austin inside.
Moore at LT and Austin at RG sounds good.

Blurb on FB is indicating Chaz Coleman may be interested in TN and LSU.

Wanted this kid.

Desperate teams who are throwing proven player level money at a very raw player. They can sell loads of assured playing time as well. He's probably a rotational player who's only on the field in certain situations at Ohio State next year. Hard to compete with that. It would be nice to have him but at this point he's not worth the cost.

He seemed a little legit to me. Definitely a impact person

He had 1 sack as a freshman and played a very very small role. Rumors are he's getting offered David Bailey type money, that's a very high asking price for a guy who still has to bulk up quite a bit to be a every down player and is still raw all around as a pass rusher.

He’s probably not getting that kind of money.

But Birm had an interesting take. He thought the way to go was to go get older 5th year guys who have done well at smaller schools.

He pointed out how Indiana is living off that and how he watched 23 year old dudes beat up on 18-19 year olds when they played Alabama.

I tend to agree with him. Go get the best player at a MAC school for example. Then go get the best player at a Mountain West school,

22 year guys who have seen it all and have produced enough.

That said I still think you go get a Koi Perich.

You needed Birm to tell you that? That’s not an interesting take whatsoever. It’s funny how everyone points to IU when Ole Miss is really the team that perfected this strategy. Ole Miss has 55 transfers on their roster. They have a QB that tore up mighty Georgia last night who played for D2 Ferris State last season.

It’s not a common approach. Not in the least.

But it makes sense because there’s for sure a difference in strength from a 23 year old to a 18 year old.

My position is OSU should pursue three types of players.

1. Downs and Sayin type players.
2. Day 1 starters.
3. Players with at least three years of experience.

I’ve been trying to reach Coach Day and let him know my thoughts but am having a hard time reaching him. Go figure;-)

The Fringe may or may not know where he lives, if you wanted to get a message, or whatever, to him.
