An early contender for Brown in the portal is Miami. The Hurricanes will search for a quarterback to replace Carson Beck this offseason.

Miami has become notorious for using the portal to acquire talent. Wisconsin sued Miami in June for tampering with a player's NIL contract and revenue-sharing.

Each of the Hurricanes' last two quarterbacks has been acquired from the transfer portal. Miami acquired former Washington State quarterback Cam Ward in the 2024 offseason. It acquired Carson Beck from Georgia in the 2025 offseason.

Realistically, Brown checks several boxes that Power-Five programs covet: proven production, college-level size, and mobility that flips run/pass mismatches.

Basically there are 3 tiers of players in the portal.

1. A ton of players that excelled at the lower tier of CFB. Can be hit or miss with seemingly a lot more misses outside of QB. It was a miss for us.

2. Freshman/sophmore players that made six figures to ride the bench at schools that overpay HS recruits. Day is correct in that players that choose a school for money will leave that school for money.

3. Players that excelled at lower tier P4. These are more rare and where we need to focus. That’s the Klare/Judkins/Daniels type player.

The Downs type player is more mythical in the portal and almost impossible to find.
