Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Wanted to a quick breakdown of the portal in general in 2024 vs same window in 2023.

In 2023, all transfer portal players needed to enter by January 2nd, unless they were in a Post Graduate program, in which case they can enter freely. 3,111 players entered the portal by January 2, 2023.

Today is the last day for portal players to enter if they have not graduated, and in total, with those that have graduated and have announced entering the portal, there have been 1,964 entries.

So basically a 30% dip from last year.

I really thought this would happen as the Covid year continues to not be available to more and more players. That free year gave players an opportunity to get into a new program and basically have a year to adjust and get indoctrinated into the program. Taking that risk in the portal without the free year....it's just harder to pull the trigger. I also look forward to fewer 25 and 26 year old players littered throughout college football (but not BYU......they'll always have their 29 year old missionaries).

I didn't watch any of the games after that abomination of a Cotton Bowl. That makes sense from what I have read.

He struggled snapping this year but has been a solid contributor last 2.5 years……I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he ends up at Michigan. They’ve imported veteran centers via the portal last 2 years and will need another one next year….

If scUM gets hit hard with NCAA sanctions, like we expect; I would think more guys will be transferring out of scUM than transferring in. With the new 12 team CFP format, everybody will be wanting to play for a team that has a legitimate chance of being in the CFPs, etc. In addition, if Harbaugh bails to the NFL that could effect scUM's transferring and/or recruiting too.
