what school(s) are comparable to ohio state these days? both public and private. (in the big ten and nationally).

Honestly, I'd say that most of the schools that we officially benchmark ourselves against are good comparisons. A few (tsun, ucla, wiscy) are aspirational, but most are, to varying degrees, similar--Penn State, Washington, Texas, Minnesota, Illinois. To those, I'd add the middle tier UC campuses (Davis, Santa Barbara and Irvine).
