Level of Expectations (Merged)

People Please

to anybody that thinks our guys didn't try their hardest to win that game you are full of it, our guys played hard and just came up short, it's as simple as that, we need to move on to next week

and to anybody that blames the playcalling by the coaches, i wanna see you go out there and try doing their job, wouldn't look too good would it, they are paid to coach because they know what they are doing, as my head coach would say "if i didn't think a play i called was going to work, do you think i would've called it", they need some work but we don't need a thousand fire Bolman threads, let them do their job

You know what I want to see? The power I formation and a reliable pocket passer. I want to see an offensive line that is capable of pass protection and knocking defenders on their asses in the running attack. I want to see a qb that goes through his reads rather than looking at his primary reciever then taking off. I want to see a championship calibur defense get some help from the other side of the ball. I want to see a vicious ground attack setting up play action passes from a qb that can see the rush coming when it is right in front of his face. I want a qb that didn't violate NCAA rules and buddy up to someone that has hurt this program in so many ways.

There is a reason a guy like Zwick has not been successful here. Without protection from his line a pocket passer has no pocket from which to pass. No, the play calling is not the problem. The problem is that Jim Tressel has concentrated on skill players and neglected to stock the most important position on the team: The offensive line. Now we are wasting one of the best defenses this school has ever fielded, a world class recieving tandem and frittering away the potential of a qb that could have been one of the best to ever step onto the field at the Shoe.

Tressel needs to get back to real football. Recruit players that will be able to line up and establish the line of scrimmage. We need to get back to smacking teams in the mouth rather than trying to spread them out and run around them. If we want wasted potential we should have just kept Coop around.

Cicero, are 4 and 5 star OL recruits not good enough for you? Cuz that's what Tressel's been bringing in lately. The unworthy OL talents you are referring to have gone on to start for the NFL. There is not a talent problem on the line. there is a coaching/scheme problem.

Not to mention that some highly touted recruits become AAs, some become solid players, and some underachieve, and there are a million reasons for this. We get the guys...sometimes they don't live up to their potential, but he's definitely not "ignoring" it.

you don't realize cicero understands much more than the rest of us and tressel. he knows the recruits we should have gone after that we did not go after. and he would have known exactly what to say to get them to come here.

You're right...I didn't get the memo. Maybe he can spot us 4 or 5 blue chippers in his spare time to help us out.

WTF.... We see you are taking the lose well.

When is the last time you saw our offensive line knock a decent defensive line off the ball?

Don't get me wrong, I love what Tressel has done here. We have great skill players and the best defense in college football. We have a top ten class of recruits every year, but without a smash mouth offensive line we will lose one or two games a year to speedy defenses.

Look at our NC season, we ran the ball with authority. We ran at and over teams because our line was able to get a push. Imagine what this team could do with just a good offensive line.

BTW, if you disagree with me fine, I love a good debate. I will not give you bad reputation points simply because I disagree with your view points. I hope in the future to get the same kind of treatment.

I am taking the loss in stride. It goes with the territory of being a fan. I love my Buckeyes and hate to see them lose, but loving a team does not mean you can't be critical of something they do that you happen to disagree with. I am not down on them any more than I was before the game. I just thought the game was a perfect example of the things our team needs to do to get back to championship calibur football.

1- Don't whine about dings

2- I didn't ding you, but I would imagine that it is statements like "Tressel needs to get back to real football" that earned them from others, and not your opinion per se.

3- There were plenty of times in 2002 when we weren't exactly lighting up other teams offensively, running the ball or otherwise...we just got a few good breaks and made some huge, huge clutch plays then, and we haven't done that this year.

4- The 2002 offensive line was also maligned by some at the time, but several players have stuck (and some are starting) on NFL rosters, so I guess Tressel has the capability of producing some good linemen. Are these guys that good? I don't know, but it isn't because the coaching staff ignores the development of the line.

EDIT: Just caught your last post...is the line great? No, certainly not, but Mangold is a beast, and if we don't lose our starting tackle early, we might have been a lot better. If anything, it's too bad we didn't have a capable backup tackle, so that we could have left Sims at guard, but that's what happens sometimes. The line is not great, but adequate to be scoring more points and gaining more yards than we are.

The level of expectations from some of you guys is unreal.

Some want 10000000000 yds of offense, we want every pass to complete for 90 yds, we want our oline to drive the opposing team 5 yds into the ground every play, we want our rb to do flips over the defense, we want Tressel to call "holy buckeye" everyplay and the list goes on.

Guys we are putting 20 year old kids out on a football field and expecting them to be the second coming of Jesus.

I know since the NC that some people expect perfection every time out but you have to remember people make mistakes, and the game of football is not as easy as it seems on Ps2.

Guys we are The Ohio State University and we have our fucking' pride to hang our hats on. So for the people complaining that we our not going to win a national championship swallow your pride and lets get ready for MSU.

:oh: :io:

your probably one of those freaks who plays the NCAA Football 2006 video game and has a 300+ game winning streak going and resets the game and reloads when you don't win, most people on here are getting over the loss, why don't you also
