Les Miles (grass eater)

LSU has never actually stated that it is for a failed drug test, but I'm pretty confident that is a safe assumption.

so looking at LSU's policy, here is the best I can guess

1st failed test = warning (public never finds out)
2nd failed test = suspended 15% of teams games that season (1 game last year)
3rd failed test = suspended for 1 full year (no scholly for that year), and must meet certain criteria to return
4th failed test = permanently removed from team

so if it is a failed test, which # are we on?

if it's 3, then according to LSU's policy, he could theoretically return in 2013 provided he met all requirements (posted earlier in this thread).
to my knowledge, no one has ever even attempted this route at LSU before. Which may be why it was worded as him being "off the team".

when telling him his options, they probably informed him that he could go 1aa to NFL route, or pay his own way to stay at LSU and have nothing to do with football for a year. He probably figured 1 year dominating 1aa then going pro was his best option.

if it's #4, then he's done.
never to return no matter how bad he may want to come back.

i'm guessing this is #3.
kinda seems like if #3 had already happened, the media would have gotten wind of it.

now, if this is #3, then LSU is in for a PR nightmare if he returns.

they said he is "off the team", he's "not coming back",

so in my mind, you can't take him back.

if he's suspended for a year, announce that he is suspended for a year.
then when he comes back, he comes back.

if he's off the team, he' off the team.
permanently.

conflicting reports right now.

Herb Vincent (LSU assistant AD/SID) said LSU has tweeted that LSU has NOT made that statement.

he is eligible to attend LSU, but they have never commented on his "eligibility" to play football.

This sites (link below) the referenced policies, and apparently there is no written rule stating he cannot sit out a year at LSU and return. It is a fully discretionary decision made by the administrative voting committee: The Administrative Voting Committee will be made up of the Athletic Director, Associate Athletic Director, the ADAP Administrator, Drug Prevention Coordinator, and Head Athletic Trainer one year suspension.

according to Bruce Feldman: Jackson St. asked for permission to speak to Mathieu and was denied.

according to "sources close to LSU and Mathieu": the only 2 schools Mathieu is interested in are McNeese and Nicholls St. and because those are the only 2, Mathieu asked LSU official to deny requests from any other school.

Allegedly, we'll find out tomorrow what Mathieu is gonna do.

I have no official guess on this one.

It is interesting that no one from LSU has shot this down yet.
A lot of "not speculating" and "no comment" type remarks from the people who would have a say in the matter.

This tells me his return is at least being discussed as a possibility.
If he truly was "permanently ineligible", seems like LSU would come out and say so to end the distraction.

Don't read anything into anything written, or attributed to Glen Guilbeau.
Dude is a hack with a bad habit of "misquoting" people in his articles.

Looks like he is trying to get his life back on track.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) ? Former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu has entered a drug rehabilitation program in Houston since being dismissed from the Tigers, according to a television report.

Fox 8 reports that Mathieu's adoptive father, Tryone Mathieu, says that the 20-year-old star cornerback and punt returner known as the "Honey Badger" has been at the Right Step recovery center and is being counseled by former NBA player John Lucas.

Tyrone Mathieu says his son is committed to restoring his health and won't play football until he is confident that his rehab is complete. That may rule out the possibility of Mathieu transferring to a school at the FCS level and playing this season, after which he would be eligible for the NFL draft.

Father: Tyrann Mathieu will not be playing football this season

Tyrann Mathieu will not be playing football in 2012. Not at LSU, not at McNeese State, not anywhere according to a report from ESPN's Joe Schad.
Mathieu's adoptive father, Tyrone Mathieu, told ESPN on Thursday that his son won't be playing anywhere.
"Tyrann is focused on addressing his issues with Mr. [John] Lucas," Tyrone Mathieu told ESPN. "(Lucas') story speaks for itself. He can help Tyrann and he can help our family."
It was reported last week that Tyrann is enrolled in a Houston rehab facility. While in the rehab facility Mathieu is being mentored by former NBA player and coach John Lucas.

Rehab for synthetic marijuana? Public sympathy stunt.

As someone who has recently entered a close family member into rehab - it isn't so much the drug, as is the addiction/abuse mentality.

I don't think it for "public sympathy" at all; however, getting his addiction problem under control should definitely help his 2013 NFL draft status.

deeper than that.

dude is and has always been an emotional wreck.

it's a huge asset for him on the field.
it drives him.
on the field, he manages to straddle the line between greatness and out of control.

off the field?
um well, he needs to work on that a bit.

Honey Badger coming back?

LSU coach Les Miles and Tyrann Mathieu: Could there be a reunion on the way in 2013?

What are the odds Tyrann Mathieu would return to the LSU football program in 2013? The day Mathieu was let go, LSU coach Les Miles said the move was permanent, and Athletic Director Joe Alleva reiterated that Mathieu had lost the privilege to be a student-athlete at LSU. ... On Tuesday, Miles made Mathieu's possible seem very realistic during a television and radio interview with ESPN personalities Scott Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo. When asked whether the Tigers' former All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist might have a happy ending at LSU, Miles was semi-cryptic, maybe prophetic and just vague enough to get the fan base intrigued. In other words, he was very Miles-like.
