Lee Corso (official thread)

His speech seems to be getting worse.

Hopefully this is coach’s last season.

Kirk Herbstreit gives Lee Corso health update ahead of 2023 college football season

Where things stand with Lee Corso, considered by many to be the voice and face of college football as we approach the 2023 season

Lee Corso will return to the set for another year of ESPN's College GameDay for the 2023 college football season, but the long-time analyst and game picker missed several shows in recent years because of health issues. Kirk Herbstreit, his GameDay partner, knows what Corso has been through in that time.

"He had a stroke about 12 or 13 years ago and really couldn't speak," Herbstreit said.

"We all wondered, 'Is he gonna be okay?' and he was determined with his speech therapist. If you ever know of anybody who's had a stroke, that's sometimes very hard to overcome and he still is working on that to this day. So it's not just that he's 88. It's that he had a stroke."

Herbstreit added: "He's worked very hard to get his word out and God bless him for having that wherewithal and that passion to love this game so much to keep trying to go."

Corso, 88, missed five editions of College GameDay last season, first on Oct. 1 in Clemson when he woke up feeling unwell, and then again for the Kansas trip the following weekend.

Corso also missed the show's visit to Jackson State and the clash between Georgia and Tennessee, when GameDay was in Athens, Ga.

A featured analyst on the GameDay program since its inception in 1987, Corso suffered a stroke in 2009, suffering partial paralysis, and requiring three days of intensive care followed by a week's stay in the hospital.

The stroke impacted Corso's speech, as he was unable to talk for a month after the incident. Since returning to the air, he has been scripting his appearances on the program.

Just sayin': If you notice, he only does a small fraction of the entire 3 hour show. I don't know , maybe he just likes to do the show; however, at his age (and health situation) you might think that he would want to spend as much time as possible with his wife, 4 children, and 12 grandchildren, etc.

ESPN College GameDay moves forward with Lee Corso for 2024 after Nick Saban addition

"For those of you who wanted clarity on Nick Saban as it relates to Lee Corso. An ESPN Spokesperson confirms: Corso will be back on College GameDay next year," The Athletic's Richard Deitsch reported Wednesday on the social media platform "X".

Corso confirmed in December his plans to return, his acknowledgement coming a few weeks before the Saban news.

“I’m gonna be like that guy in Vaudeville,” Corso said during a recent GQ feature. “They hook him around the neck, and they pull him off the stage as he keeps talking.”......

He needs to hang it up.
People used to say Keith Jackson was a great announcer. But whatever memories I had of him being any good have been tarnished by hearing him say "Barn Childress" and "When was the last time a team in the national championship game had 2 players named Brandon: one named Joe and the other named Schnittker?"

I've always enjoyed Lee Corso. I hope he retires soon so I can hold onto the good memories and not have them be spoiled by what he brings today.

Also, doesn't he have family? Wouldn't he enjoy watching the games at home with kids/grandkids/nephews/whatever?

Him Kirk and Chris made a great team in the 90s and early to mid 2000. Lightning in a bottle, really, and probably contributed a lot to turning NCAA football into such a big deal. Since Lee's stroke and Chris left, (plus adding Desmond Howard, YUCK!) the show is no longer watchable as far as I am concerned.
I agree with all of your reasons, but I still watch it, sometimes.
Oh - you forgot about the part where they love the SEC too much. That makes it harder to watch.
