Leaf-blower, worth the investment?

most of them have a fan blade that makes the suction and it also shreds the leaves... if you are into that kind of thing, then have fun

Yikes. That's not at the end of the extension tube is it? Not that I'm into that kind of thing. A "friend" asked me to ask. :paranoid:

Hell yeah it's worth it especially if you have a dog (it prevents many problems that are caused by dog shit). I actually have a gas and an electric. The gas powered one is much better, but not necessary if you have a small yard. Using the blowers to clean up my yard cut the job time in half. Raking is for suckers and...

It depends on which type you're talking about. The hand held gas models that cost around $75 from Lowes are ok. The push models that can blow fur off the dog are really nice, but kind of overkill if you don't have ALOT of leaves.

I have a Cub Cadet leaf vac that I use to pick up leaves in the yard. It cost $700 but was well worth it since I pick up leaves 4 times a week in the fall, and it has a 10:1 shredding ratio.

If you don't have a large amount of leaves, then get the hand held blower and blow them into the woods or your neighbors yard.

Thinking about getting one, is it worth it?

No, not when you can build your own. Take a 12 hp briggs and stratton engine, some 4" sewer pipe, a portable swimming pool pump (the bigger the better), along with a little ingenuity, and your blower will be the envy of any neighborhood.

Wow, that doesn't sound like a redneck contraption or anything? :roll1:

That would cost twice as much to make as a leaf blower. and you would not be able to convert it into a hovercraft

Free plans for building...
Mini-Flyer
A Hovercraft Powered by a Leaf Blower
Four-Foot Diameter Platform
Lifts up to 60 Pounds
Fun and Educational
Mini-Flyer's platform is cut from a 4 x 4 foot sheet of 1/2-inch plywood. The skirt is made from a sheet of plastic. With power from a gasoline or electric leaf blower, it's about the most basic hovercraft possible. Built it in a day for less than $50, not counting the cost of the leaf blower. Return the leaf blower to its normal leaf-blowing job when you're finished hovering.
2-D CAD Drawings and 3-D Computer Model
Plans were created in CAD, but you do not need a CAD system to view them. Using AutoCAD's free WHIP! plug-in, you can view, pan, zoom, and print the drawings from within your web browser. Mini-Flyer plans also include a CAD-accurate 3-D computer model. Use your free evaluation copy of Rhino to view, zoom, and rotate the model so you can see it from any angle. Rhino also makes color renderings, like the one in the image above. Scroll down for instructions and the download link.
