DaytonBuck

I've always liked them
A buddy of mine got a 52 inch sony bravia LCD from HHGreg and them professionally install with the wires, setting, etc.

He has ATT and Uverse.

Football games especially during the beginning of a cut shot the screen pixelates like a mofo.

He called Sony, ATT and HHGreg and they all blame the other party.

What's the fix to the problem?

Are they HDMI cables? Even Component cables still have a pretty good picture though. What condition is the coaxial cable in? Are there specific HD channels from his provider, that he is not using? Does he have his tv set to the regular coaxial input instead of "component1 or 2" "HDMI". ? Sometimes the input will be on "cable" or "tv" right out of the box. The input has to be switched over to the latter. Are there any indications of the broadcast you are watching is actually 720p or better(on tv or cable box)?

Despite rip off, monster cables and a "supposed" HHGreg pro set up

Troubleshoot. Is it all channels or only HD? If all channels, hook up any tv to it and see what happens. If it continues, it's ATT. If not, it's the tv.

If it's only HD channels, try another HDtv. I know most don't have two lying around, but he could actually buy another cheap one and return it the next day. The big box stores never ask questions.

Here's the thing. It looks good on things that aren't cutting away or changing shots a lot. Now the first thing that popped into my mind is that LCD is supposedly bad for sports however this shizzle is ridiculous. When they change views in a football game it's like youtube circa 95.

The LCD wouldn't pixelate like that. Artifacts that appear at the start of jump-cuts are usually due to bandwidth limitations from the source.

Did AT&T install fiber for the UVerse, or did they hijack his existing copper wire? I'm going to guess AT&T used the existing indoor wiring, and that's not up to snuff.

If it were me, I'd call AT&T and tell them to come out and fix it, otherwise I'm switching to DirecTV. The best way to get a truck roll is to threaten canceling their service.

Attach an over the air HDTV aerial - even a cheap one can pick up a local HDTV signal.

If you don't see the damned problems at that point then you can conclude it is the input from the cable provider. Threaten them with the deadly Dish.

I hear OTA HD is better than cable/satellite HD. True?

Depends on compression algorithms used by the provider. No compression needed for OTA. Compression is used by Cable and Satellite providers.

Hence, if the OTA HD also comes in pixellated you can be dead certain that it is the TV - otherwise you can be certain it is the source.
