LB Ryan Shazier (All B1G, All-American, 2017 Pro Bowl)

It is not always a good thing to get the "best" players or the higher ranked players. Getting the guy that fits your scheme is the way to do it. Shazier fits what we do on defense. He is the perfect LEO. He is only a 4 star according to the recruiting sites but it's pretty obvious that Tressel sees him as a 5 star in the Buckeye defense.

Yes, ESPN will lower him for sure haha.

But my point is, Rivals has him as the 12th best OLB and Scout has him at 8. But Tress probably believes he is the #1 player in the class to play the LEO. None of the guys ranked ahead of him can play that position as well as Shazier.

Buckeyes Add Ryan Shazier, Benefit from Turnover in Gainesville | Our Honor Defend

The two basketball programs at Ohio State have big weekends ahead of them. The men's team will host the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon while the women's team take on the mighty Connecticut Huskies on Sunday. The football team, meanwhile, charges full steam ahead toward the Sugar Bowl. The coaches, while preparing for ArKansas, are nevertheless tying up the 2011 recruiting class. They added one important piece in Ryan Shazier, from Plantation HS in Plantation, Florida. The defensive end, turn linebacker at the college level, will follow his high school teammate Jeremy Cash to Ohio State.

Friday night: Report from Bill Greene, who works for the Ohio State site on Scout.com:

Plantation's Ryan Shazier was committed to Florida, before announcing Friday morning that he would not be playing for the Gators. After narrowing his choices to Ohio State and LSU, Shazier made the announcement Friday evening, at his graduation party.

"I have committed to Ohio State, and that's where I will be playing college football," Shazier stated Friday evening. "I've never been happier, or felt better, than I do right now. I loved the atmosphere and their facilities a lot. Their players were great guys, especially Etienne Sabino who was so great to me and my dad the whole time."

"My family and I have such a great feeling about Jim Tressel, and my dad and I talked it over last night and decided Ohio State was the best place for me," he added. "We also love (linebackers coach) Luke Fickell, and think he's a great mentor for me, on and off the field."
