LB Raekwon McMillan (Official Thread)

Probably smart to separate them from Genpop.

2003-4 in Morrill featured hockey and lacrosse.

Oh, and Evans Desir (yes, he does exist) throwing a chair through the wall in our suite after the scUM game.

Yeah, it is probably a good idea. I think it has only been open for two years and before that it seemed like a lot of the atheletes were in the dorms above marketplace on neil and 10th.

When I lived in Morrill, Orlando Pace lived there. There were gymnasts, basketball players, lacrosse, cheerleaders, etc. But not enough of each team was there regularly enough for me to think they all lived there. But now that they doubled the occupancy of Morrill back to the way it was before, I doubt many athletes would want to be there as it's now cramped.

All-Name Team: Best monikers in the 2014 recruiting class

Ohio State-committed linebacker Raekwon McMillan is the defensive captain of SI's '14 All-Name Team.

Here at the Sports Illustrated Institute for Gridiron Nomenclature, we study all the important name trends. Unfortunately, some of those trends have the director of SIIGN feeling pretty old. From 2010 to '13, 26 players named Shaquille or Shaq signed to play football with FBS schools. Ten of those signed in '11, which makes sense because National Signing Day came a little less than 19 years after the Orlando Magic made Shaquille O'Neal the No. 1 pick in the 1992 NBA draft.

That was an important moment in the life of this young director, who lived in the Orlando suburbs at the time. When one's high school and college memories begin to show up in the names of people entering college, it means a significant amount of time has passed. That's why one particular player from the class of 2014 has the director feeling positively ancient. Many of you will probably feel the same way when you meet future Ohio State Buckeye Raekwon McMillan.

McMillan is a 6-foot-3, 245-pound linebacker from Liberty County High in Hinesville, Ga. And unless he has a great-great-great-uncle Raekwon somewhere in the McMillan family genealogy, there is a high likelihood that the top-rated linebacker in this year's recruiting class was named after a member of the Wu-Tang Clan. For those too old or too young to appreciate the reference, the Wu is a collective of rappers that emerged in 1993 from Staten Island -- they called it Shaolin, and who were we to argue? -- with Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). For a lot of 30- and 40-somethings, Raekwon, Method Man, RZA, GZA, ODB and the rest helped provide the soundtrack for early adulthood. Who knows? They may have inspired more parents. So when Inspectah Deck Smith signs in the class of 2016, don't be surprised.

Free 24/7 - Top five impact early enrollees

Others to watch: Ohio State linebacker Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty Co.) will be given every chance by Urban Meyer to step right in, and if he learns the playbook over the next eight months do not be surprised to see McMillan provide the Buckeyes with a physical presence as the starting mike linebacker.

Can't wait for Bino to get here and start!
Can't wait for Grant to get here and start!
Can't wait for MM to get here and start!

Yes, I know there are differences between the three above and The Chef, but 247 is jumping the gun a bit. The only freshman starter at LB I can remember is Shazier, and he had no clue what he was doing...as an OLB. I could see Ash/Fickell putting Raekwon/Mitchell as the third LB in a 4-3 set and letting Grant call out the adjustments from Mike, but I'd think Grant/Perry will be on the field in all nickel formations. Trey Johnson and Cam Williams fight for the 2nd string Willie slot, IMO. At the very least, McMillan and Worley will add two more bodies for the spring...hopefully Darron Lee is back from injury.

Grant, Perry, Williams, Johnson, Burger, Mitchell, Worley, Lee, McMillan at least gives you a three deep you can run in the spring, with Berger/Booker/Hubbard coming in June.

Yeah, I know. He and Greg Bellisari were the reason I mentioned the line calls above, because Greg made all adjustments to the defense. For that matter, Rudzinski may have made the calls in 97 with Kat as a sophomore if my memory serves.

What I wouldn't give to have had Dorian Bell, Newsome, Perkins, Ejuan Price or Jamel Turner around, to say nothing of guys like McVey, Crowell, Hagan, Whiting or Roberts. Unbelievable to lose ten linebackers over 4 years of classes.

You have to go back to 1996, but this guy made an impact starting as a true Freshman at linebacker.

I'll Go with Spielman myself

I didn't do such a great job of explaining myself. Rushed and on my phone didn't help.

What I intended to communicate is the impact those players had in their point in their careers. Archie, as a younger guy winning the Heisman, for example... I'm not much of a Heisman historian, but were there many juniors who won before him?

And Big Kat... As a true frosh... was unreal. He played the position as well as most upperclassmen at the time. Certainly had the impact greater than most upperclassmen playing the position at the time.

Not to take anything away from Spiels. He's arguably one of the best in the position in his career as a Buckeye. But I don't recall him having that kind of impact as a frosh.
