much more:)COLUMBUS, Ohio – Chris Ash knows what his first impression was of Raekwon McMillan when Ohio State’s new co-defensive coordinator saw Ohio State’s new five-star linebacker around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
“He looks like a big-time linebacker,” Ash said, pondering one of his most anticipated new players on National Signing Day. “That’s what he looks like. Now, we’ll see what he plays like. But he looks the part.”
When it comes to the skills needed for a true freshman to play on the Ohio State defense, looking the part didn’t make Ash’s list.
“The biggest hurdle, typically, is the mental hurdle,” Ash said. “Learning the scheme and the terminology and the reads and the reactions. But it’s our job as coaches to develop a plan that’s simple enough for these guys to use their abilities and skill and get out there and play … (a plan) that allows those talented players to play without hesitation and those young players to have a chance to compete.”
Raekwon McMillan will wear jersey No. 5. Johnnie Dixon is the coveted No. 1.
