LB Dante Booker (Official Thread)

a full LB class last year
Which is probably 2, if Worley sticks at the star position.
McMillan a likely Buckeye and commits already from Berger/Hubbard/Booker, I'm not sure Winovich will still have a spot in this class?
Hubbard being less than 250 in a few years would be surprising, as would him playing LB.

If McMillan & Winovich both verbal to OSU, they will have six LBs for 2015, their second year on campus. That's a very small number.

Maybe one of the gurus knows better, but I don't see Winovich in this smallish class.

Not a guru, but the coaches are visiting Chase tomorrow and very much want him to be an important part of this class.

Ohio State gets oral committment from St. Vincent-St. Mary's Dante Booker
Tim Rogers, The Plain Dealer, May 24, 2013

St. Vincent-St. Mary linebacker Dante Booker would have begun his senior season as one of the most heavily recruited high school players in the country.

The 6-4, 220-pound junior stopped that frenzy before it started -- or at least curtailed it considerably -- when he made an oral committment to attend Ohio State.

Just because Booker has orally pledged his love for OSU does not mean other suitors will stop calling.

SVSM coach Dan Boarman said Booker had narrowed his choices to OSU and Notre Dame after hearing from practically every major school in the country.

"The process has become very draining at this point," said Boarman. "But Dante did all the right things. He made his visits -- I can't tell you how many -- and he talked to many people."

One of those that Booker spoke with was former teammate Doran Grant, who figures prominently in OSU's secondary plans for 2014.

"I know that Doran was very helpful," Boarman said.

Booker did not return messages left by The Plain Dealer.

Boarman said Booker has remained true to his workout regimen and is diligently preparing for next season, when the Irish will attempt to win a second straight state title.

"Dante puts the work in," Boarman said. "He does what needs to be done. With his frame I think he could add 20 or 25 pounds and still be slender."

Booker was a Plain Dealer All-Star and the defensive co-player of the year after helping the Irish win the Division III state championship. During the regular season he was in on 72 tackles, with eight tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He also had six sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and seven passes deflected.

Booker, whose father, also named Dante, was a standout at Ellet and had an outstanding career at Auburn, is the ninth pledge in Ohio State's 2014 recruiting class, and the third linebacker, a position the Buckeyes didn't fill in last year's recruiting class until late in the process.

Booker, from Akron St.Vincent-St.Mary, is 6 feet 3 and 210 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds. He made a call to OSU defensive line coach Mike Vrabel.

"He made it a three-way call with Coach (Urban) Meyer, and I told (them) I was picking Ohio State," said Booker, the ninth member of OSU?s 2014 class. "I had been thinking about it a lot recently, and I decided now was the time to do it."

Booker, a consensus four-star prospect, is ranked No.4 nationally among outside linebacking prospects by 247sports.com and 10th by rivals.com. He had offers from at least 14 schools, but it boiled down to OSU and Notre Dame.

"The difference was the size of the schools," he said. "I just think it?s going to be great to be playing in front of more than 100,000 for my home-state school."

St. Vincent-St. Mary junior linebacker Dante Booker Jr. commits to Ohio State; 9th Buckeyes recruit
By Michael Beaven Published: May 23, 2013

St. Vincent-St. Mary junior linebacker Dante Booker Jr. has committed to play football at Ohio State University on scholarship.

Booker is the second St. V-M junior to give OSU coach Urban Meyer a committment recently, following junior running back Parris Campbell Jr.

?It is a great opportunity,? Booker said. ?I am excited to get the chance to play with Parris in college. It feels great to make the decision and I look forward to playing my senior year of high school."

Booker is 6-foot-3 and 215-pounds. He and Campbell helped St. V-M win the Division III state football championship in 2012 and both played on the Fighting Irish boys basketball team that was the Division II state runner-up in 2013.

Booker, 17, said he also ?seriously looked at Notre Dame? and received approximately 14 scholarship offers from Division I colleges.

?Obviously, you are talking about a great university in Ohio State,? St. V-M coach Dan Boarman said. ?It is a great place to go to school and a great place to play football. I think it comes down to there wasn?t a bad choice for Dante. He had several options, and they were all good options.?
