LB Conner Crowell (official thread)

Sualua is a Samoan name (the Hawaiian language doesn't have an "S" in it).

Hawaiianbuckeye was born and raised in Hawaii, and although he's white he considers himself as Hawaiian as any other person born in Hawaii.

Crowell obviously has some ties to Hawaii, with his being that interested in how many Hawaiians there were on campus. He likely just wants to meet anyone from the Hawaiian Islands, not just Native Hawaiians.

By the way, when folks from Hawaii talk about "Hawaiians", they're almost always referring to people from the state, and not Native Hawaiians. People here who have Asian, Portugese, etc. ancestry consider themselves just as "Hawaiian" as the indigenous people...

Crowell likely wouldn't care if a person from Hawaii had Native Hawaiian blood in him...I'm sure he and Hawaiianbuckeye would get along quite well.

First of all, was Crowell born in Hawaii? If he wasn't then he is not a "Native Hawaiian" by your logic. You go ahead and research that for me. Thanks.

Second, I'm sure Hawaiianbuckeye and Crowell would get along too, they both seem to be affable(http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/affable) gentlemen.

Do you think in their conversation either "native Hawaiian" could have predicted Aundrey Walker would have picked USC over OSU and MSU on NLOID?

I don't know what your problem is, but since this is still in the recruiting forum I'll keep it clean. I never said Crowell is, or is not, a Native Hawaiian...I was explaining a possible reason as to why a someone from Maryland would be so interested in how many "Hawaiians" would be on campus. I also explained how people from Hawaii still consider themselves "Hawaiian" even if they don't have any blood connection. People with even half a brain would've deduced that. Oh, wait...

Not sure in which lingo HAYN and Crowell would've made their predictions, but, I'm sure both would've at least had the guts to respond to my 6-month-ban offer. Let me guess, you were too busy listening to your Justin Beiber collection. Do your parents even know you're on-line now?

back to discussing the recruitment of Crowell....

is it me or do you find it amazing that Tressel took the time to travel to out-of-the-way Charles County, Maryland to spend 1/2 a day with a recruit that he basically has already locked up ? Just imagine the pride Crowell had to be seen walking around the halls of his high school with Jim Tressel...knowing JT was there for him and him alone.

Also imagine those winter athletes at North Point HS who sat and listened to Jim Tressel speak to them...in 20 years those folks will be able to say they heard the great Jim Tressel speak. I bet it won't sink in for them for at least 4 or 5 years.

Just watching how JT handles himself in front of and away from the camera makes me wonder how a parent could allow his kid to be swayed by Rich Rodriguez, Lane Kiffin, or Charlie Weis. It's one thing for a 17/18 year old kid to be dazed by the slick salesmen, but it's another for a grown adult to fall for it. I wonder what the McCarthys of Youngstown were thinking when they sent their 2 sons to play for Charlie Tuna instead of Jim Tressel.....or when the Koger kid spurned OSU to go to Michigan....or when Aundrey Walker said "even though OSU has everything in its favor, I'm going to go hollywood".

We are witnessing an amazing era of OSU athletic dominance. It's led by the face of the entire program....Jim Tressel. And what a great ambassador he is.

For years JT has been encroaching on JoePa's previously exclusive recruiting territory, taking some of the best players that would have previously gone to State Penn. Left unsaid was that the area's best linebacker did not go to the self-proclaimed "Linebacker U" too. But the area high school coaches certainly did not miss that. Yet, JT was careful to praise the local coach who is now a State Penn assistant and recruiter for that area. Total class!

This one day recruiting trip could pay dividends for OSU for years, and perhaps in many other sports too. It got a large article in the local paper and, certainly, was a conversation topic in every bar and beauty shop in the area.

I sometimes wonder how many recruits for sports other than football or basketball come to OSU because of JT or TM? It seems reasonable to believe that those two make the entire athletic department better.

Crowell out indefinitely

Not taking part in the freshman parade was linebacker Connor Crowell. He underwent surgery yesterday, Fickell confirmed, although the coach offered no details. Insiders said it was to further repair the two broken bones in his lower left leg Crowell suffered during his senior season at North Point High School in Waldorf, Md. Likely out for the 2011 season, his plans weren?t known last night.

So, can he apply for a medical redshirt due to this? Or will it burn the normal redshirt season?

In the end I doubt it would matter since he most likely won't be sitting out a season beyond this one, but I am just curious about how that would work.

Medical Redshirts get applied for much later. Conner still has 5 to play 4, and if that doesnt happen, he can apply for a medical redshirt.

This would seem to verify what was speculated on before: that it was indeed a serious left ankle injury.
