LB Cody Simon (Official Thread)

I think Knowles has alluded to such early on in the season, that only a fraction of his defense has been installed. I believe he's been adding wrinkles as the season progresses, but we may not see the full extent of his defense until next year.. which has to be frightening for OCs

We may not see it all until next year, but I bet we see something designed for a particular run heavy squad visiting from up north.

I'm trying very hard to not count unhatched chickens, but when I read these posts I can't help but think... "January is next year"

For the love of all that's good, I hope Eichenberg and Chambers stay healthy all season. However, as good as they are, Simon is rightfully earning PT and seizing the moment...if he has to start meaningful games, I guess what I'm saying is I don't see any noticeable drop-off. We're fortunate for that and also not having Cody hit the transfer portal. Glad to have this kid in Columbus.

  • It’s important for Knowles to keep players healthy for the long haul, which is where linebacker Cody Simon comes in, he said. Feels Simon and C.J. Hicks will play a lot this year in the spot.

Textbook tackle just needs his head up. Hell of a play
You always want to keep the head up, but I think he was launching himself as far forward as he could to prevent the first down. Hell of a play like you said. Really I'm surprised they didn't keep it a first down even though it wasn't...just close enough and on the road I thought there was no way they would get it right.

Better put this one in the log book for later in this year when we aren't getting any of them to go right for us!

  • On his fourth-down stop, Simon said he “just felt like I had to make a play.” He said he prepares like he’s going to play every snap, so he was ready when his number was called to enter the game for that play.
  • On Ryan Day’s postgame comments: “We felt his love for us. And we felt like he always has our back. And in turn, we have his back … We always said we were behind Coach Day no matter what. He’s our leader, and we’ll always have his back.”
  • Simon said he could see when Tyleik Williams was a freshman “that he was gonna be a dominant player,” so he’s not surprised by how well Williams is playing this season.
  • Simon said Chip Trayanum’s transition from linebacker to running back shows how Trayanum is “100% a team player,” and Simon said he is “so proud of him and so happy that he was able to make that big play” by scoring the game-winning touchdown against Notre Dame.
  • Simon described the atmosphere in Notre Dame as “one of the best atmospheres I’ve ever been a part of. Their crowd and their stadium was off the charts.”
  • He said the postgame celebration was “probably the most electric our locker room’s ever been after a game.”
  • Simon said he’s looking forward to watching his brother, Pitt linebacker Shayne Simon, play against Virginia Tech this weekend during the bye week.
  • Asked who he thinks is the best team in college football right now, Simon said “if I didn’t say it was us, I wouldn’t have the trust in my guys.”
Just sayin': This is his senior year (4th) at Ohio State. I think he red shirted in 2020. So with a COVID year he could have 2 more years of eligibility. Hopefully he returns next year and competes for a LB1 spot.
