No where near the extent that the folks in your neck of the woods tend to do. - and from what I've seen, its not even close.

Well - I blame the SEC Commissioner.

He told us to pick one:

1) rag the Big-10 continually and mercilessly, or

2) burn our couches after big games.

We needed our couches, so.......

C'mon, we all know southerners can get a new couch anytime the grocery store has a huge sale on oranges.

Huh! Not likely! Why, we-uns was all conceived on the couch, borned on
the couch, and our pappy and mammy died on the couch. After inheriting
the trailer, me and the mrs. honey-mooned on the couch for two days until
the Blockbuster called to take our Dukes of Hazard VCR back.

50 days left till kickoff? Please God, make it come soon.

Laurinaitis studies OSU?s great linebackers
BY LARRY PHILLIPS ? News Journal ? July 11, 2008

LEXINGTON ? James Laurinaitis will gladly participate in a discussion of Ohio State?s greatest linebackers, he?s just ticklish about being one of its subjects.

?I don?t consider myself fitting in with those guys, that?s for other people to decide,? said Laurinaitis, a speaker at Friday night?s North Central Ohio Football Coaches All-Star game banquet. ?There?s an unbelievably thick tradition there, and to even be considered is an honor to be in that category.?

Make no mistake, Laurinaitis knows his subject well. He?s going to school on it, literally.

?I?ve had an opportunity to do an independent study this summer for communications and I?ve gotten to talk to all the linebackers because I?m doing an article on the linebacker tradition here,? the Minnesota native said. ?You read things about Randy Gradishar and he has two coaches that are unbelievably respected in Dan Reeves and Woody Hayes calling him the best linebacker they?ve ever seen. You?ve got guys like Chris Spielman and look at the things he?s done and Andy Katzenmoyer and what he did before he got hurt.

?A.J. Hawk, everybody knows about A.J. You still see 47s everywhere.?

Gradishar and No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Tom Cousineau were the best linebackers Hayes fielded. Spielman topped the Earle Bruce regime, while Katzenmoyer spearheaded the John Cooper Era. Hawk was considered Jim Tressel?s best linebacker, but the 6-foot-2, 230-pound Laurinaitis is making a strong case.

As a sophomore, he collected 115 stops, 8.5 for loss, 5 interceptions and 4 sacks to win the Bronko Nagurski Award as the nation?s premier defensive player. Last season Laurinaitis posted 121 tackles, 8.5 for loss, 5 sacks and 2 interceptions to earn the Butkus Award as the country?s best linebacker.

Still, Laurinaitis recognizes cracking the first rank of top Buckeyes at the position is a tall order.

?A unique thing about Ohio State linebackers is a lot of those guys could still play in today?s game,? Laurinaitis said.

JL is a class act! He has such a great head on his shoulders. It filters down from JT though. It would be great to see James go down as one of the top 5 linebackers in Ohio State history.
I'm sure JT would love to take the credit, but when you grow up the son of an entertainment millionaire and have action figures of your own dad, you're cut from a different cloth. :)

You knew JL was going to be special when he chose OSU and mentioned that a big factor in his decision was wanting one year to follow Hawk, Carpenter, and Schlegel around, and then told Hawk he'd be sick of Laurinaitis once he got to campus.
