LB Coach James Laurinaitis (2x B1G DPOY, 2006 Nagurski, 2007 Butkus, 2008 Lott, 3x All-American, OSU HOF, National Champion)

The adage is that stars can't coach and there's more than a lot of truth to that. The best coaches are usually backup or (See Day, Ryan) small school QBs, not QB1s. Stars who can coach are outliers and it's statistically absurd that we have three who were Buckeye star players who are now kicking ass as coaches and not just on the recruiting side, but developing the talent they're bringing in which, of course, brings in more.

Not only has Day hired standout coaches, but more importantly coaches that absolutely love college football, the pageantry, and connections to the youth.

James really is going to become a great DC one day. He’s getting invaluable mentorship from Patricia that will pay dividends. What he’s done with Styles and Reese in such a short time has been amazing. These are guys that have been around the program for years just needing that right coach to come along and exploit their talents to the world.
