LB Alex “Sonny” Styles (Official Thread)

Over the next year or two, Ohio State is going to be battling against every program in the country in Styles’ recruitment, but the one that has already emerged among all others as the Buckeyes’ main competition is the Fighting Irish. The home of Styles’ older brother, 2021 receiver signee Lorenzo Styles Jr., Notre Dame also wants him to play its own bullet-style position as a hybrid OLB/safety called the rover.

Notre Dame has made Styles as high of a priority as the Buckeyes have, and Styles is as much of a must-get for the Irish as he is for his home state program. But you absolutely cannot let Styles get out of the state, and Ohio State’s staff has been making its early, concerted push ever since Styles’ very first varsity game at Pickerington Central last August.

Ohio State and Notre Dame will likely be his first two visits with familiarity and proximity factoring in. His father, Lorenzo Sr., played at Ohio State, and his brother will be making his own recruiting pitches.

“There’s really no pressure,” Styles said. “My dad went to Ohio State, and my brother recruited me and he went to Notre Dame. I’m free to go wherever I want. They’re not pushing me to go anywhere, it’s all on me.”

With his brother at ND, I just wonder how much of an advantage (or disadvantage) ND really has in the recruitment of Sonny.

They will be players, but let's be honest, his brother would've been a Buckeye if we really wanted him, but at DB.
I think Sonny is ours to lose
I believe the disconnect with Lorenzo was that Ohio State projected him at DB and he wanted to play WR.

I assume there were no hard feelings resulting from that and that Ohio State leads here.

Lorenzo choosing ND of all places was confusing because there passing attack is up and down a lot and usually there QB is a one read guy who targets there tallest and biggest receiver .. I could be wrong but I would have thought he would choose a more consistent pass happy team with consistent QB play

OSU was looking at him at DB, and he wanted to stay at WR. That eliminated OSU. Best of luck on betting on himself

“There really is no pressure,” Sonny said. “My dad went to Ohio State. My brother is going to Notre Dame. I’m really free to go wherever I want. They’re not pressuring me to go anywhere. I’m looking for the best place for me.”

Sonny said OSU defensive assistants Al Washington and Kerry Coombs have been recruiting him. He has also spoken with head coach Ryan Day.

“I’m looking forward to when we can get on campus and spend time with them,” he said.
