Ronnie Hickman and Josh Proctor led the way at safety. Lathan Ransom and Kourt Williams also mixed in for some first-team reps but ran primarily with the second-team defense. Kye Stokes, Sonny Styles and Jaylen Johnson all took third-team reps.
- Styles also earned praise from Buckeye coaches during punt coverage sets at the start of practice, as the five-star defender knifed through the line to come close to blocking a couple punts from Jesse Mirco.

Two brothers will stand on opposite sidelines when No. 2 Ohio State opens its season against No. 5 Notre Dame Saturday at Ohio Stadium.
Wearing blue and gold will be sophomore Notre Dame wide receiver Lorenzo Styles Jr., while freshman Ohio State safety Sonny Styles will don scarlet and gray. It’ll be the first time Lorenzo and Sonny will be on the same football field in two years, dating back to when Lorenzo was a senior and Sonny was a sophomore at Pickerington Central High School, about 30 minutes away from The Shoe. Only instead of teammates, they’ll be temporary rivals instead, both playing on teams with College Football Playoff aspirations
The Styles family has attended numerous games over the years to support both Lorenzo and Sonny, but it’s never been like what they’ll experience Saturday.

Sonny Styles of Pickerington Central saw action on three different special teams units. The coaching staff trusted Styles to be on the punt block/return team every time Arkansas State punted. The son of former Ohio State linebacker Lorenzo Styles was also on the kickoff return team five times and the kickoff team three times.

- “He’s got a chance to be special ... Usually guys find their way on special teams first before they play on offense or defense, and Sonny’s a good example of that.”
- Day added that Styles is very mature for his age and has been impressed with the maturity of the 2022 class as they have been around him longer. "There are some guys finding their way on defense and Sonny is one of them."
