By Rick Klauer

Quotes from the GM

Some notes and quotes from Packers GM Ted Thompson after picking A.J. Hawk:

- "By the far the best athlete at his position."

- "He can play any of the three spots."

- Regarding moving up or down in the draft: "We had discussions with teams to do both. I was inclined to do it," ... but was afraid of losing out on Hawk.

- "We went through a lot of pain and heartache to pick at this No. 5 spot."

- "I felt strongly A.J. Hawk was the guy I wanted."

- Regarding taking Hawk over TE Vernon Davis: "He (Davis) would have been a good fit here. But we felt like at this point and time....we just thought A.J. Hawk was the best fit."

As a Packer fan, I was a little bit hesitant to want the Packers choose Hawk in this draft because there are so many good linebackers. Although, I think Hawk is the best. And I'm excited about him as a Packer. Hey, frankly we need 2 lb's, so we can still take one in the 2nd or 3rd. I like Rocky McIntosh. He would look good next to Hawk and Barnett.

LokyBuckeye, do you think you can get me a Hawk avatar in a Pack uni or tell me how I can steal yours to use on another board?

BuckeyeNation27 posted that pic in the draft thread and I just made it smaller. YOu can right click on my avatar, save it and then upload it to another board to use.

here's the pic from BN27

LoKy, you were okay with that pick, then?

Did you see the audio feeds at Packers.com? Listening to the radio here, but I'll go back for the archives later. I think the conference call is with A.J.

Yeah... I guess I'm OK with the pick

I saw the audio feed but was watching on ESPN. I'm glad the Jets took D'Brickashaw Ferguson and left Hawk on the board.
