Football: OSU linebacker A. J. Hawk has been named the Walter Camp Foundation defensive player of the week for his game against Northwestern. Hawk had a team-high eight tackles, a forced fumble, and recovered a blocked kick and returned it for a touchdown against the Wildcats. Hawk is also one of three finalists for the Butkus Award, awarded to the best linebacker in college football.

They left out the fact that he also had a sack in the Northwestern game.

aj won the butkus right after the oki state game last year. his performance against texas was simply icing on the cake. carp is not the best lb on the team. though he is the second best lb in the country. its kind of funny when you look at our lb trio. hawk will win the butkus, but if he weren't playing carp would almost certainly be the leading candidate. and if both carp and hawk weren't playing, i honestly believe schleg's would without question be a finalist. possibly even win. the only 05 butkus finalist who will make more money in the nfl than carp is hawk.

p.s. carp WILL play te against scum. ill put money on it.

oh and don't be shocked if you see a reverse pass from ginn .

Hawk named finalist for Lombardi

HOUSTON -- The national leader in sacks, Louisville defensive end Elvis Dumervil was among four finalists named for the 36th Rotary Lombardi Award on Tuesday.

Also named were defensive tackle Rod Wright of Texas and linebackers A.J. Hawk of Ohio State and Paul Posluszny of Big Ten Conference rival Penn State.

The 6-foot, 258-pound Dumervil has 20 sacks -- 7½ more than any other player in the nation -- and needs five more to break the NCAA record set by 2002 Lombardi winner Terrell Suggs of Arizona State. Dumervil also has set an NCAA record by forcing 10 fumbles.

Wright has anchored the defensive line for the 10-0 Longhorns, who need two more wins to earn a berth in the Rose Bowl. The 6-5, 310-pound Wright has 38 tackles -- 12 for losses -- and 13 quarterback pressures, and is hoping to become Texas' first winner since Tony Degrate in 1984.

The 6-1, 240-pound Hawk has led the Buckeyes in tackles in nine of their 10 games this season. A semifinalist last year, he is looking to become the sixth Ohio State player to win the honor, more than any other school. Former Buckeye linebacker Andy Katzenmoyer won the award in both 1997 and 1998.

The only junior of the group, the 6-2, 229-pound Posluszny is fourth in the Big Ten with 106 tackles. He is hoping to become the second Penn State player to win the award, joining Bruce Clark in 1978.

The winner will be announced here on Dec. 7.

AJ denied the Nagurski! :mad1:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- For the second time in three days, Louisville defensive end Elvis Dumervil has been named a finalist for a major award.

Dumervil was among five finalists announced Thursday for the 2005 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, awarded to the best defensive player in the country by the Football Writers Association of American and the Charlotte Touchdown Club.

Also named finalists were Penn State end Tamba Hali, Oregon tackle Haloti Ngata, Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryans and Virginia Tech cornerback Jimmy Williams. The winner will be announced Dec. 5.

On Tuesday, Dumervil was named one of four finalists for the 36th Rotary Lombardi Award, which is given to the nation's top lineman. The 6-foot, 256-pound Dumervil leads the nation with 20 sacks and a record 10 forced fumbles.

The 6-3, 267-pound Hali has 16 tackles for loss and 11 sacks for the Nittany Lions, who can secure their first Big Ten Conference title since 1994 with a win at Michigan State on Saturday.

The only junior finalist, the 6-5, 338-pound Ngata also is a candidate for the Outland Trophy, which the FWAA awards to the top interior lineman.

The 6-2, 232-pound Ryans is the leader of a Crimson Tide defense that ranks third in the country against the rush, while the 6-3, 216-pound Williams guides a Hokies secondary that is second nationally in passing defense.

Texas linebacker Derrick Johnson won the award last year.

That's a joke. A.J. is the best defensive player in the country. It's why he'll be the first defensive player picked in the draft, and why the Buckeyes are going to kick the crap out of Michigan. Heck...he isn't that far off from being invited to New York...not that he could ever come close to winning.

Well thats a real kick in the groin. That ruins my day for sure. I'm sure all of us would love to trade A.J. for one of these superhumans that are going to beat him for the award. Apparently if you are a corner for the top pass defense in the nation that automatically qualifies you for this award. Freakin' dumperville is going to clean house on awards and it is going to make me sooooo pissed. What the hell do you have to do to win this stinkin award.

And thats how I feel. Only with a lot of f bombs.

Take-a Dumperville is rolling up the stats against shit competition.
Six sacks against Kentucky.
Three sacks against Oregon State.
Three sacks against Florida Atlantic.
Three sacks against North Carolina.

Yup. Louisville's opponents' combined record is currently 42-42, with two teams with losing records remaining: Syracuse (1-8) and UConn (4-5).

Number of sacks Dumervil registered against teams with winning records:
Zero sacks (and zero TFL) against South Florida in a Louisville loss.
Half a sack (and 1.5 TFL) against West Virginia in a Louisville loss.
