Latest Eddie George Update

It will be a cold, cold, cold day in hell when I ever root for the pukes no matter how many Buckeyes are there. That team is the same as scUM in my eyes and that's never gonna change. A Buckeye win and a weasel loss makes my day on Saturday and a Skins win and a puke loss on Sunday has the same affect.

I know, I know, I know...the Skins haven't done shit in recent years. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Looks like we are exact opposites. A bucks win on saturday and a 'boys win on sunday is the ultimate. Throw in a redskin loss and life is that much sweeter. Make it a cowboy win over the redskins - which is about as automatic as osu beating indiana and i feel like a million bucks. The penultimate is a cowboy win over the redskins and a bucks victory over ttun!!!!! OH. I LOVE THIS SCENARIO!

btw - thanks and a loud shout out to coach spurrier for the unbelievably funny years he gave you & ME

If that's the "penultimate", what's the "ultimate"? Penulimate means "next to the last in an order", e.g. "y is the penultimate letter in the word Buckeye".

The ultimate is a rare in fact extinct version of : cowboys over redskins! bucks over ttun! AND brewers victory in world series over stinkin yankees! I almost hope it never happens because I will die. period.

(now technically if I could get all that drinking a 6'er and getting some tail.... I guess that would technically be the ultimate!!)

I, too, am already feeling the pain of having to root for the cowboys! I used to love seeing them get beat on Sundays. Oh well, I'm good for one year. I'm sure Eddie will get a bellyful of that idiot Jones and move on next year when he's a free agent again! :hour:

Eddie to the Cowpokes................

Fuck. This is my own private hell....

Jackie Smith drops a sure TD pass in Super Bowl loses to Pittsburgh- a young BKB says, "NO MORE!" becomes Pittsburgh fan (Swann and Stallworth? What's not to like) and vows to hate the Cowboys forever. Hatred of Cowboys includes Oklahoma State (But that's more because their mascot - especially on PS2 - is VERY FRIGGIN CREEPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I guess I'm just glad Eddie is on the backside of his career. I'd hate it even more if Eddie was going to put up HOF numbers like he did when he was younger.. Amazing, I mean the guy is only 31 and we talk about him being old..

He's the biggest back on the team. He's one of the most productive rushers in league history, running for more than 10,000 career yards, which ranks 17th on the all-time list.

While George has the name recognition, the experience, the size and reputation that no other Cowboys running back can match, he is behind the others in one area:

Knowledge of the offense.

"Right now, I'm learning from them," George said of teammates such as Aveion Cason, ReShard Lee and even rookie Julius Jones. "All those guys have been here in the summer and have an idea of what to do. For me, I know the game more, but this offense and terminology, it's all new to me. So that's the biggest thing for me. Until I can get a better grasp of what I'm trying to do, and where I need to be on every play, it's going to be an adjustment for me. But I have confidence that I'll pick it up."

Not only was George not with the Cowboys this summer for their off-season mini-camps, but the veteran running back spent little time in Tennessee, trying to renegotiate a contract with the Titans to his liking.

So it was to no surprise George showed some rust his first day of camp practice here Saturday. But the following day, he started to look more like the running back the club had in mind, especially in short-yardage situations.

George, who has 64 career rushing touchdowns, had a few nice plays on the goal-line and middle drills during Sunday's morning practice, certainly catching the eye of head coach Bill Parcells.

"I know Eddie is pretty good at that," Parcells said of his short-yardage running. "And that's something we've got to get better at. Our goal-line was average last year, at best. And I know we're going to be better around the goal line. We've just got more gas now. But we'll see how it goes. I'm not worried about him.

"I've already seen enough to know there is still tread on those tires."

And that's important for Parcells to see, especially early in training camp, still less than a week after George signed his one-year contract. The knock on the 31-year-old is he doesn't have much left in the tank. His numbers have declined in recent years, even rushing for a modest 3.3-yards per carry last season with the Titans.

Yet, George never seems too concerned when asked if he'll be able to compete at the same high level.

"I know what I can do and what I've always done," he said. "And I don't see a big difference. To me, I know I can still be the running back I've been in the past. I still think I can help this team win and that's what I plan on doing.

"When you look at numbers, it's not always the running back. I think you have to look at the big picture and what's going on up front. But I don't really want to look back in the past and how things went anywhere else. I'm glad to be here with the Cowboys and just excited about moving forward."

George last year rushed for just 1,031 yards and five touchdowns - both second-lowest season totals of his career. His longest run from scrimmage last year was just 27 yards.

But Parcells knows better than anyone how players, especially veterans, can fit in certain teams better than others. That's why he wasn't worried about picking up Marcellus Wiley even after the Chargers released him this off-season. And he's not been concerned about acquiring Keyshawn Johnson for the second time, although the Buccaneers deactivated him for the final six games when the receiver and Tampa Bay head coach Jon Gruden repeatedly clashed.

And it's no different with George, a player Parcells admits he didn't have to go too far in order to reference.

"Eddie George has pretty much been an open book for anybody that's been in the National Football League," Parcells said. "I really didn't know Eddie personally at all. I really didn't. But I know guys who know him. Terry (Glenn) played with him in college (Ohio State). And he was very positive about Eddie and (Gennaro) DiNapoli was the same way.

"When you ask a player a question, it's not 'Is this guy a good player?' That's not what you're asking. It's other things that go into the situation. 'Is this going to work with me as the head coach? Is he going to fit in with that?' And they both were very positive about Eddie George."

And now that he's got him for himself, it will be interesting to see just how positive Parcells will be about the newcomer with two first names in the end.
