Poor bastard thought he made it then WHAM! volcanoes really suck.

Years ago, I spent a bright, sunny day in Pompeii. Especially remember the streets that had deep ruts worn into them, presumably by the wheels of passing chariots.

Always been struck by the plaster casts. Amazing insight on the part of the early explorers that they recognized what the void around the skeletons represented and invented a method to preserve them.

This article has video of the new skeleton find:

http://miami.cbslocal.com/2018/05/29/pompeii-eruption-victim-skeleton/

It also includes these additional revelations about the poor fella:

Officials said the man suffered an infection of the tibia, which may have caused walking difficulties, impeding his escape.

Oh, and this cheerful detail..

Archaeologists have not found the victim’s head.

That would also impede one's escape.

PS By coincidence, FXX is airing the movie Pompeii right now.

The more I read about this unlucky bastard the more I'm convinced he has to be an ancestor of mine.

Well, maybe, if one of his kids was vacationing out of town that day.

Oh, and ran across this in a Q&A--might explain the missing head:

The intense heat—perhaps as much as 750 degrees—carbonized much of the organic material in the area. Many of the victims have been found with the tops of their heads missing—their brains having boiled and exploded.

Also, it appears that his name was Wilius Coyotius.
