"Fletch"

I wish producers/directors would come up with some original ideas rather than relying on remaking 70's/80's/90's movies and TV shows.

Regardless if they've already made a sequel, I don't want to see anyone else but Chevy Chase in that role (as Fletch F. Fletch). I'm sure Jason Sudeikis will try, but he's not going to sing "Moon River" or have the timing of Chevy Chase (in that role).

"Thank you, Doc. You ever serve time?"

2 bad horror movies this weekend:

Devil's Pass: Found footage film, actually they set the story up really nicely, and the buildup was really good too...unfortunately the payoff sucked complete balls. I give it 2/5, not much else to say about it, except that it wasn't as bad as...

Aftershock: I am really starting to hate Eli Roth. This movie was another Hostel-type foreign project, it was a Dimension film and had Wiensteins as Executive Producers, so I figured it couldn't be THAT bad...boy was I wrong. The buildup sucked, the characters sucked, the payoff more than sucked, the "twist" was so predictable even Shamalyan was laughing at them, and the ending was just the cherry on the shit sundae. The only highlight was Selena Gomez with a cameo acting exactly as you would think she would in real life, basically telling Eli Roth to fuck off when he hits on her...which is what I wanted to do after wasting my time with this crap. 1/5, a couple of girls were kind of cute and I did manage to finish it...otherwise it would have gotten a zero.

Got geared up for March Madness with "Rare Basketball Films" at the Wexner Center last night:

basketball.jpg

Really interesting collection of old (30s-70s) clips from the UCLA newsreel archives, moderated by the Wex's David Filipi who obviously loves the game. Holman, Russell, Pettit, Cousy, Baylor, West, Alcindor, Walton, OSU 60-62, crazy ABA clips, a lot of it unedited footage, really neat stuff.
This was the latest in their series of "Rare [Sports] Films", and they have another installment of the baseball series coming up in May. It was a full house, though that may have been due to Bill Hosket, who held an open Q&A afterward and is just an outstanding speaker. He was full of well-crafted and hilarious stories about legends like Fred Taylor, Phil Jackson, Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell. Truly one of the greats in Ohio basketball history.

Saw The Act of Killing this weekend...I have absolutely no idea how to rate it. Zero stars? 5 stars? Does it matter? If the material were not 100% real, it would have been boring. If the material was any less repulsive, it would have been boring. If it had been any less outlandish, it would have been boring. As it is, it wasn't "interesting" so much as "repulsive". I don't know, I don't think it was made well enough to qualify as a Dear Zachary, but given the fact that the entire Indonesian crew remained anonymous for fear of retaliation, well...you get the point. There's something about watching a mass murderer talk about ripping someone's head off with wire like he was talking about buying milk and eggs that just really...I don't know. I give up.
