Technically a mini-series, but essentially a ten hour movie. Incredible stuff nonetheless.

I've been waiting for Pacific to get a little cheaper on BluRay. I loved Band of Brothers. I've heard this is not as good as BoB though, what did you think?

From the perspective of tight storytelling it is not as well put together.

From the perspective of getting a glimmer of the horrors experienced by those Marines it is on another level.

I agree completely with what Muck said. It tells the perspective of three different Marines from the 1st Marine Division who served in different companies throughout the Pacific theater. It's based off two main books, Helmet For My Pillow, by Robert Leckie & With The Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa, by Eugene Sledge. John Basilone's story is told through the accounts of the Marines that served with him.

Tremendous series to say the least. Doesn't have the character development you see in BOB simply because it's not following one individual company from start to finish. Highly recommend it nonetheless.

Here's a little teaser for you.

I'm kind of disappointed the series only gave Sledge's Okinawa campaign one episode. It was definitely a bigger focus in his book then the Peleliu campaign and a much larger one in the war as well.

True but there is also only so much you can throw at people. I have a suspicion that spending too much time on those 82 days would too overwhelming for what the series was trying to cover.

not to mention it cost like $250 million to make... I say this .. whoever was in charge of casting... earned every freakin penny because most of those guys were spot on for their real life counterparts.
