I was actually pretty disappointed in both after all the hype. Not just the hype for the most recent movie version of the tale but all versions of it. After I read the short story I just didn't get the attraction. It felt ham-handed and I enjoyed his other work far better.

Written by and starring Jackie Gleason...directed by Gene Kelly. It is my mother's favorite movie from her childhood and I was able to track down a copy for her from some DVD shop in Canada.
