Las Vegas Hotel Advice

DaytonBuck

I've always liked them
This is my first trip to Vegas Dec. 14-18. I'm thinking about staying at the Imperial Palace. I'm looking for some place cheap with a good location. I'm going out there with 4 friends 24-26 to gamble, party and celebrate my friends birthday. I was told the center strip was the place to be. From what I can tell Barbary Coast and Imperial Palace are the 2 cheapest places center strip. Would I be better off just staying north strip and taking the monorail? Any info anyone has would really help.

Imperial Palace seems like a decent place for the price. I am thinking of staying there when I go on sept 7th.

I'll let you know then.

Though hotelscorp.com gave me a good deal at Excalibur last time I went to Vegas.

I liked the southern end of the strip better than the north. MGM, NYNY, Luxor, and Mandalay are all decent places to gamble, drink, or whatever. And honestly we walked everywhere, all the way up and down the strip, and nothing is too far away.

Although Slots-A-Fun ended up being my favorite place to gamble. That place rocks.

I went for a bachelor party and stayed at the Flamingo and when I do go back that is where I will be staying at. Great location within walking distance to anything on the strip we only took cabs to the old vegas. It has an AWESOME pool with lots of hot girls and a Margaritaville inside it (over-priced shitty food with bad service, but the atmosphere is fun). Price was very reasonable and it even had live penguins on the property! If that's not a reason to go I dont know what is.

So I could walk from the northern end of strip to southern easily? No need for the monorail?

You're talking 2 miles or so from one end to the other, so I don't know how "easily" you can walk that. To some, it's simple, to others, that's an epic hike. We stayed at the Aladdin when we went, and we walked a lot, but it was cool. We also bought bus passes ($5 per day, all you want to ride) for that day. Didn't mess with the monorail at all.

I agree with Clevebucks though, the south end of the strip was a lot more fun. NYNY, the Luxor, MGM Grand are all awesome. If you get a chance, you should go check out the old Vegas at Fremont Street.

First off congrats on going to Vegas for the first time. But just a warning with the Imperial Palace & Barbary Coast you get worse than what you pay for. The places are dumps and you can find cheaper and better elsewhere.

I recommend the Orleans Casino it is probable cheaper than the Imperial Palace but is a nice place to stay and it will have cheaper gambling than the strip resorts. It is off the strip but it has a free shuttle to the Rio/Palms area and also a free shuttle to the Barbary Coast where you can then walk to anywhere on the strip.

But, it is your first time in Vegas. So don't cheap out. Stay at a decent place on the strip like Monte Carlo. But if money is your biggest issue and you don't care that the hotel room smells like shit and your views are blocked by the bigger casinos nearby than feel free to stay at Imperial Palace or Barbary Coast.

I have been to vegas 3 times and stayed at a different hotel each time. Treasure Island(awesome), Harrahs(Best Value) and The Venetian(Luxury). If you are just going with guys and are nto going to be spending a lot of time in the rooms then I suggest Harrahs. It is dead in the middle of the strip and is very cheap. The other two hotels I mentioned above are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. I would not stay at Barbary Coast. It is where all the drugdealers and hookers hang out late night. If you are into that sort of thing then you need to go to Dre's LATE NIGHT. You will see more hookers and get propositioned more than you thought possible. Also lots of drugs. So like I said not really a place where you would like to be spending your quiet time. I know nothing about Imeperial Palace so I can not comment. Bally's is also near the middle but I am unsure as to how much it costs to stay there. I have walked everywhere in Vegas, its not too bad if you take your time and stop in the casinos as you go. (This is one of my favorite things to do.) Take this for what its worth, just wanted to add my thoughts.

I agree with Piney that the Orleans is a vastly underrated casino/hotel.

Walking is a great way to see alot of great looking hotels.

The size of most of the casinos is amazing.

DO NOT stay at the Imperial Palace. It is nasty. Spend the extra cash on some place a little more high scale. Have stayed at the MGM (highly recommend), Hilton (it's ok), NYNY (very nice), and the Stratosphere (average). Go to Cheetah's if you get the chance (and like strippers).
