Larry 'LJ' Scott (Retired)

Fisher’s pick helps Hubbard Eagles stop Girard
By Joe scalzo

. . .

For most of the first half, Hubbard’s fans thought they’d relish a blowout victory. On the first play from scrimmage on the new turf, standout junior LJ Scott took a simple handoff from the stacked-I formation, went around the right side of the line and dashed 67 yards for a touchdown.

Scott needed just seven carries to top 100 yards but injured his left ankle late in the first quarter and spent the second half in street clothes on crutches. (The injury is not expected to be serious.) With their main weapon out, the Eagles put the ball in the hands of 6-foot-5 senior QB Brennan Wassil, who threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to make it 28-0 with two minutes left in the first half.

Wadc45 - Talent, better current options, or other on the reason why OSU passes?
First of all, I don't think he could commit to Auburn or Alabama today if he wanted to. Word is Alabama offered several different RBs yesterday alone. I think, and this is my opinion, that OSU is in on better options and are willing to wait those options out. Especially if they are only taking one RB in this class...because if that is the case you have to think Damien Harris is at the top of the list. Like the Nick Conner situation, you can't recruit in-state kids the same way. MSU has convinced Scott he is #1 on their board and that's where I think he ends up if he commits early. OSU is being put in a position to either make a move on LJ or to simply go in a different direction. With where they are with Harris as option 1A and where they are with other guys on the board as option 1B, I think they pass on Scott. Now that could all change tomorrow with an OSU offer, but that is how I see things today.

It seems likely that OSU is looking to take two RBs in the class then, no?
That would be my guess as well. I was fairly certain it would only be two if it was the right two. That's why I saw them chasing Harris and then one of the speedsters like Dexter Williams, Bryce Love or Taj Griffin. I guess a RB class of Harris and Scott could be what they are looking for.

Perhaps we can thank Mr. Hyde for Meyer's new focus on power backs like Scott over the speedsters he had less success with at Florida. And it's not like the team is lacking speedsters at other positions, either.
