Large Terrorist attack in Paris

Interesting. In my travels I have found that most of the military personnel I speak with will tell you that we are loved in a military sense but they hate our politics/politicians because the Left/Right loves us one minute then you change to Right/Left and now we are not BFFs.

I have been told that we are needed for security in Europe to deter Mother Russia. Here is the part that IMO is the funny thing about it all. We are always called cowboys and we just do what we want. However, when these nations are supposed to be running/controlling [insert anything here] they don't take charge. We get frustrated and just take charge. Again, this is a small sample size of military exercises that I have been a part of. So take it with a grain of salt.

Now the every day citizen that is about as well informed as our safe space idiots...one called me a Nazi and to get the F out of the country (most likely Russian not Polish) and all the older generation is fascinated and want to know how we are working with their host nation while the younger folks mean mug the shit out of me in a confused way.

Lastly, I wonder how the Lithuania & Ukraine's opinion would change if it had been taken now instead of 2011.

Maybe it's just me, but looking at ISIS, and saying the threat to Europe is greater than it is to the US, and the capability to launch a Paris-like attack on US soil is not so great the wrong way to look at them? At this point what are they not capable of doing? Doesn't seem logical to think that way anymore....

There is no reason these assholes should be allowed to continue doing what they're doing for one more day. I may be over simplifying, misguided, or just plain wrong, but this is what I think... I honestly believe that a coordinated, serious effort by a group of countries working together to wipe out ISIS would take care of the problem in under six months. The excuses- we don't know where they are, we can't afford it, we can't work together, blah, blah, blah, etc.- are bullshit. Nobody wants to go all in on a "war" on ISIS, but that's what needs to happen, and that's what we're looking at. This is a war. Someone earlier made a good point about Obama looking at it as criminal activity instead of war, and I agree. Maybe it's a good thing in the long run that we're not all gung-ho about starting a bunch of wars, but this is one we need to be a part of if we want it to go away.

We need to organize with as many other countries as we can, and hit them with everything we've got. Airstrikes, boots on the ground, whatever it takes. You can't just take away their funding or destroy the weapons they're using, they need to be killed. All of them.

Several people have mentioned this, as well (and I agree)- we're fooling ourselves and setting ourselves up for serious trouble if we think that a Paris-type attack, or worse, won't happen here. It will. We're damn lucky it hasn't happened yet.

My two cents....

Unfortunately, there will always be another group ready to take their place.

Unfortunately, there will always be another group ready to take their place.

That's true, but smaller fringe movements might be easier to manage and have less confidence, and resources, to carry out attacks. The Islamic terrorists will always be just Islamic terrorists, nothing more. They may want a Caliphate and Sharia Law for all "infidels", but it just won't happen unless Allah himself magically appears and the rest of the world is wrong. They push, and push, and push (and by that I mean behead, terrorize, and bomb) until they push too far. Paris is the start of the end, but unfortunately not the end. The scary part are concept of "sleeper" muslims who become radicalized when it fits; when the fighters appear to have the upper hand.

Terrorists and terrorism are nothing new. Terrorism for Islam is nothing new. It generates attention. It gives a group their 15 minutes and buys a few followers; a few bandwagon explosive belt wearers. Other groups that follow the same beliefs will likely pop up, but the question is what will it look like? ISIS has already shown to be the most hardcore, disgusting group and their atrocities both in their region and abroad haven't been seen in 100 years. These guys want infidel genocide and conversion to Sharia law.

The US was unlikely to get involved as long as this was generally contained in the Middle East. I don't know how you stop 8 people from committing somewhat random acts of cowardly violence. That's why they'll have success there. They're successful terrorists. But they'll never be anything more than that, on a regional and global scale.
