Large Terrorist attack in Paris

If France were to respond with a large military presence in the Middle East I see the US having a big role also. It also wouldn't hurt to work with Russia and the U.K. Russia in my opinion has been doing it better in terms of picking sides. Neither side is good but Assad is in a situation like Saddam we remove him and then more chaos is bound to happen. If a serious military response is to occur I see it being highly successful.

Your cool detachment might be put to better use in another thread in the heat of the moment of another historic terrorist attack.

"Cool detachment." That's rich. I'm not the one who was using this tragedy as a cheap way to discredit opinions on a completely separate event. I'm not the one who's detached here.

You seem like you are justifying their attack. Why?

That is a horrible remark that you should be ashamed of. I'm not going to dignify it with any further response.

It seems like the only viable short term solution would be to swallow your pride (as the United States) and work with Russia and Assad to secure Syria as soon as possible. Worry about democracy and the moderate rebels later once the extremism has been brought under control. The only problem is Assad and Russia consider all fighters extremists and they will clearly kill everyone indiscriminately like they're already being accused of doing.

If anyone is going to treat ISIS brutal it's going to be Russia or Syria. Every one of them bastards need to die the way they have murdered others. If the US can fight 2 world wars with Russia I think they can make it work to destroy this group. The air strikes that the US have been doing I think is just a hair of what potential we are actually capable of.

You said it. I didn't understand. You can't explain what you meant?

Since you asked in a civil manner this time...

The US has been playing whac-a-mole in that part of the world for most of my life. I'm questioning the utility of the strategy that has been employed over the last two-plus decades (if we're going back to the original WTC attack) in an attempt to wipe this scourge from the Earth. It seems apparent to me that it has not been entirely effective, otherwise we wouldn't be where we are at this moment. I'm not so naive as to think that diplomacy or isolationism is a viable alternative, but the force that the western world has employed hasn't worked either. I don't profess to have answers, but I don't think that simply bombing the hell out of a place in the name of revenge is a smart thing to do, nor do I feel it's a good idea to impose democracy in parts of the world that are not receptive to it historically or culturally.

More than anything I'm frustrated that we are grieving over another senseless attack being made in the name of a despicable, bastardized, extremist worldview.

Military intervention has been a horrible mistake for the United States in almost every single case with the possible exception of WW2.

Pointing that out has nothing to do with a universally condemned terrorist attack.

Since 86 answered for him. I'll do the same. He means we need terrorist safe spaces.

Before we shout me down too... I don't need to see their side. I'm not on it.

I just don't agree. I'll let it go
