Believe he's playing the 'keep myself relevant' game. Ole Miss isn't exactly a contender, so Joey Freshwater is keeping his name in the papers by saying outlandish things - all the newsies are looking for a good headline, always. First HC job at Tennessee - got drummed outa there, then falls into the SC HC job, got drummed outa there, did penance at Bama as OC under Saban (one of Saban's reclamation projects), and then HC at Ole Miss. Perpetual interview filler (universities call him for an interview to fill out their dance ticket), is probably the best he can hope for. Had he been a real candidate, he would have been interviewed for the Alabama throne after Saban abdicated.

If memory serves me correct, he didn't get drummed out of Tenn, he literally just left them after 1 season! That's why I don't get so many CFB fans getting mad at players hitting the Portal so often, when coaches do it freely and with no problems. He was there 1 year, and in the off season just leaves because he always wanted the USC job. Sounds no different than a kid choosing to hit the Portal because he no longer wants to go to that school... But I digress
I don't think Bama would come calling for an above average HC who has a record of pissing off fan bases as well. Kiffin reminds me of an influencer on social media, he does and says things to stay relevant like you said. If he can make an outlandish claim and doesn't need to back it up but its plastered all over ESPN, he did his job

Yeah, I believe he bailed out on the Vols after one year to take the USC job. That's why they hate him so much in Knoxville.

I don’t remember if it was only one year. Ms. Kiff has plenty of MILFish / Hot wife pics floating around of her in UT gear that it would be quite a bit for one year. But if so, or either way… her time in Knoxville was welllllll fucking documented… praise God.

It was only a year, that’s why Tenn fans were so pissed at him. And then a number of his signees getting arrested didn’t help either. He left literally in the middle of the night like Art modell to Bmore. One of the most disgraceful acts of a HC.

Guess I blew it when said he'd been 'run-off' at Tennessee. OK, I'll own that. Do remember wanting the USC gig, but seem to recollect that he left in the wake a very big NCAA investigation of what "impermissible benefits" given to recruits/players? Or some such. Probably eased his decision process, and made it hot for him at the same time.
