Yes, FSU is a big mess, too.

One thing I will say in Randy Shannon's defense...he's getting top recruits out of Broward and Dade County, particularly the northern part of Miami is just feeding him top talent. That's his major draw, recruiting. I remember the day he was hired, and it was like a light turned on for so many kids in Dade County, where Miami is situated.

I'll give him a mulligan for the previous season (that was Coker's garbage) and this year he still needs to gel the team.

However, if he screws up next year, I do agree he's gone. The DC Young and also their LB Coach Barrow are extremely good, but they need help at the other skill positions. They've got so much talent their, but they are indeed wasting it.

Just before the start of the seasons, Miami fans are always believing every year is going to be the year, that somehow every recruit is going to be magic. That's good, that's positive thinking, and that's the way they thought through the late 1980s when I personally feel they were probably at the strongest in their team's history. Unfortunately, good recruiting and talent won't get you anywhere unless you have the coaching at the top.

Perhaps Shannon should go up the street and talk to Bill Parcells for some advice (seriously).

Having looked at some Miami forums tonight, I wouldn't go as far to call for Randy's firing. Give the poor guy one more year at least (he's worth that alone in another good recruiting class). At least he made one right call in getting rid of Nix.

Gatorubet, Miami did give UF a bit of a game for 3 quarters. However, I am rooting for UF over the Sooners.

That Miami game was one of the few games I caught in person this year, LSU being the other. I was really impressed by the effort and heart shown by a young Miami team in a hostile environment. But I have to admit it looks like the Canes went backward instead of forward as the season went on. For some reason the talent is not being developed.

Agreed. That's what I'd worry about for LJ going to Miami, I don't think he's going to get developed there (and that goes for a lot of players given the current situation). I watched LJ play this year and the kid can compete, he was the reason his team stayed in the game against Palmetto and Jaamal Berry. The district that LJ plays in within southern Miami has some pass orientated teams and Palmetto, under the new FHSAA alignment, will play LJ's team next year, so I think he'll get plenty of work again next year. Despite being only 5'8", he definitely can jump.

Dont worry about O-state getting a look. I got ya, OS will stay in the top 3-4 along with BC. I love OS tradition, program, school, environment, and the way players develop and are used on the field. Especially defensively, O-state DBs are often top notch.

Glad to hear that! We're awfully proud of our DB tradition here at OSU and our track record speaks for itself. Shawn Springs, Antoine Winfield, Ahmed Plummer, Nate Clements, Chris Gamble, Donte Whitner - all 6 were Buckeye DB alumni who were 1st round picks in the NFL draft over the past dozen years, with Malcolm Jenkins set to become the 7th in that timeframe. ALLof those guys were(Plummer)/going to be(Jenkins)/are(everybody else) stars in the league and franchise DBs for their teams.

Also glad to hear Lamarcus is giving us a real honest shot. That's about all anyone can ask for in the recruiting process.

Funny that Miami has that same "scared of competition" bug that has had the m*ch*g*n fans in a tizzy since Rich Rod was hired. Must be a loser thing to make themselves not feel so loser-y, because those teams are in REAL bad situations right now.

Yes, im worried about FSU. Its tempting but it seems like a big mess like you said. I'll give Shannon a B+ for this year. He started a ton of freshman. My college head coach told that for every 2 freshman you start expect a loss. Well Miami did better than that with a ton..i mean a ton of freshamn. But what will happen now? To me it says a lot about your program if freshman can come in and win a spot over 5 and 6 yr Srs. They had that happen at serveral positions.
Here's my point on Miami:
1. Couldn't develop 2 3-4 yr Qb's who started or played most of their time there. Freshmen beat those guys...freshman. Im not talking about T. Pryor
2. 4 Wr's returning (2 Srs) and all were out performed by freshmen.
3. 2 stud Rb's returned and they both played like freshmen this past season. Worse numbers than their freshmen yr.
4. 5 returning DB's (2 who started along with three Sr's) all beat out by true and redshirt freshmen. Five guys who been under Shannon who were considered very talented didnt develop at all in 3-5 yrs, on Shannon was directly coaching them.
5. Ok Spence is a beast, but with that said. What about the other LB's, three 4 yr guys and 3rd yr guy were horrible at LB.

To sum it up. I think if these guys were at a OSU, USC, UF, or UGA they would have performed better after being in a program that long. Its not about recruiting, those guy were not cupcakes in HS.

They need Don back so bad along with Art, two main stays of stability in the program over a number of year. Those guy literally bleed orange and green. Speaking with Art when he came down to recruit man he was [censored]ed about how Coker fired them. Also look at this one factor that me and my buddies always point out and its important. Look at the physique of the players, skills guys are lean and skinny while big guys are pudgey.

Don Soldinger, also a Miami legend, molded the great backs that came out of Miami in the past 10 years or so, and you of course know the greatness he had leading Miami Southridge High School as a head coach. I think he'd be a recruiting asset for Miami, too.

Miami has got McGee coming in. My concern there is that they're going to be kind of full up at the DB position for LJ to get real playing time (apart from further development as we already discussed). You get a coaching staff there that's not in tune and nothing happens.

For LJ's sake, I could see him progress at Ohio State. He was the only guy who could keep up with Berry in that game about a month ago. And not to many guys could keep up with Berry throughout his career. I never see the Buckeyes let good talent go to waste. They always find a way to harness everyone's abilities. Look at how Chris Gamble turned out coming from South Florida. I guess with the Florida schools, I'd be tempted to say he might be lost in the shuffle (we know that occurs and that's a reason a lot of kids will go out of state). As I recall LJ's vertical leap was pretty good, more than some DBs in the Rivals250 for next year.

Assuming, the FHSAA keeps the districts the way they are going to be, FHSAA.org: Football it will be interesting to see another battle of Palmetto vs. SW next year. I know LJ's Eagles are coming back strong (I still can't believe Sunset gave Killian a hard time) and Palmetto returns a pretty good offensive line.

Actually, my mistake on the districts, SW is going to be grouped in a different district for regular season play. But if I have this one right, Palmetto and SW could eventually wind up in the playoffs against each other.

SW district sucks big time now. Although Sunset and Braddock was way better last yr than anyone thinks. Sunset was a solid team. Ive tried by best to move LJ from there with Coach Burrows leaving but Coach Johnson is staying and he wants to finish out with him over there. I could have done it last yr but i felt he wasnt ready yet to be in an inner city environment. Im hoping that coach leaves so i could bring him over with us (Northwestern), if that happens put our name on another HS national championship. But he's in good hands, i left him with Johnson whos a good coach. The good thing though is that they will play a way harder shedule being that there is only 3 district games. I told there coach to put us and Carol City on their shedule.

OK, our bad. no need to split. On scout 2010 1st list they have LJ as the number one CB. I really wants to play FS but enjoys the idea of playing corner. Look at corner, he's a beast. i wish you all knew how strong he is. When i get my hands on the palmetto tape i'll upload it on youtube and let you see how him and Berry was meeting all game. I know you think of a 170 pound guy as small but not him. He looks 180 and right now hes benching 275 with lil spot twice, no joke.

I saw him play against Palmetto playing the CB position mostly, but I'll defer to genron187 since he follows Southwest football. He is that good at CB and can jump pretty high and also he scored a really incredible TD on an improbable reception as a WR. In others words, don't underestimate this guy.

You have to see this one play that genron187 is referring to where LJ ran down Berry. I swore Berry was gone to the races, but LJ caught up to him. If the Florida schools don't want to put him at the very top of their DB wishlist and are hoping for something else to come along, that's fine with me.

I just checked out his highlight video and he is a fun guy to watch. I don't know if I've seen anyone who looks faster though it is hard to judge the competition. He also looks like he likes to hit. Its crazy to see guys fly backwards when he hits them. Don't see that every day with a guy his size.

Antoine Winfield is one of my all time favorite Buckeyes and that is who he reminds me of. May be even a little faster too.

You'll never hear an OSU fan who assumes 170 is too small after watching Antoine Winfield at OSU and in the NFL.

This is a fair comparison, Winfield and Joyner, from what I have seen of Joyner.
