Tomlinson has two upcoming visits

Two-way lineman Laken Tomlinson (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) visited Ohio State on June 26. Afterwards Tomlinson said he was planning to visit Illinois the following week and Wisconsin sometime in July.

"I haven't made those visits yet," Tomlinson said on Monday night. "Illinois will be July 20. I'm still working on a Wisconsin visit. It will be sometime this summer."

The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder played tackle on both sides of the ball his sophomore year and defensive tackle and offensive guard last season. He could play on either side of the ball in college.

Tomlinson's list of scholarship offers includes Illinois, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Northwestern, Purdue and Stanford.

He said he does not have a leader, though he was very impressed with his Ohio State visit. After he visits Illinois and Wisconsin he plans to concentrate on getting ready for his senior football season. He would like to select a college in September.

When I first read that I thought he was calling Coach Tressel, "The Tressel."

But that's sweet. I haven't seen him play, but sounds like a really good one at a position that's always of need.

How does he compare to the the DT in '07 from IL we looked at Josh Brent?

I think LaKen is probably more athletic than Josh was and Josh can move for a big guy. A guy who would be closer to Brent in comparison is Chicago St. Rita DT Bruce Gaston. The kid is good and he just started blowing up a little. I wouldn't be surprised to see you guys in the mix in the future. He's a big time talent who just really started getting serious with football.

I have no idea why he chose Duke over Northwestern if he really made his choice based on academics. Now on the football side of the equation, honestly, Duke doesn't even register. So I guess I'm pretty puzzled about this recruit.

I can only imagine what the responses would have been if he chose Duke over Michigan. All kidding aside, Duke has actually picked up some good high school players the past few years and just added another one to the mix.
