INDIANAPOLIS ? The Ohio State women?s basketball team overcame a major scare from upstart Indiana last night in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten tournament. But even as their racing heart rates dropped after a 72-60 victory in Conseco Fieldhouse, the top-seeded Buckeyes (27-2) already were forced to consider what postseason life might be like without injured junior guard Marscilla Packer.

Indianapolis- Ohio State refused to crack.
Already playing without all-conference guard Brandie Hoskins, and losing their other starting guard, Marscilla Packer, early in the second half Friday night, the No. 5 Buckeyes survived by going inside.
Three-time conference Player of the Year Jessica Davenport scored 30 points, and forward Star Allen added 15 points and 13 rebounds to help the Buckeyes pull away from ninth-seeded Indiana, 72-60, in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals in Indianapolis.

I haven't yet seen a report about how bad Packer's ankle might be, but if it is one of those high sprains, God forbid, and her ability is limited or even prevents her from playing, I think the Lady Bucks are in real trouble. My perception is that BB teams can overcome the loss of one star player, but rarely two. I sure hope I am wrong about that in this case, or that she can play and it is not an issue. :(

INDIANAPOLIS ? The body blow of the night before had subsided enough yesterday for the Ohio State women?s basketball team to pause and take a deep, collective breath. The top-seeded Buckeyes advanced to a semifinal of the Big Ten tournament Friday night in Conseco Fieldhouse at a cost. Junior guard Marscilla Packer suffered a sprained left ankle in a 72-60 victory over Indiana and remained doubtful to play tonight against fifthseeded Penn State.

I too , would like to get to watch at least one Tourney game. They are going to have to play their hearts out now if Packer can't play, or be effective. Good luck ladies.

Pretty sad I've had 4 or 5 league tourney games on today, Horizon, At. Sun, ACC, SEC, Pac. 10, why can't the Big Ten get coverage, or, is that being saved for the Big Ten Network. I'll be lucky to even have that offered here....:shake: Well, a win tonight and the Champ. is on spin2 tomorrow I believe... :oh:

The Lady Buckeyes had a double-digit lead against Penn State, but Penn State shot close to 70% in the second half, and made a couple of threes late, including one with 30 seconds to go that tied the game. Star Allen had a shot bounce off the rim with about 3 seconds left, and they went to OT.

Penn State got a 4-point lead early in OT, and then Jessica Davenport scored 3 straight times from the right block. Charity Renfro missed a free throw that could have tied the game in the last 30 seconds of OT, and then Davenport made the first free throw to put tOSU up by two with about 6 and a half seconds left. She missed the second, and PSU got the ball all the way to the baseline, where they shot a 15-foot airball at the buzzer.

Purdue came back from double digits to defeat MSU earlier in the afternoon.

tOSU-Purdue for the tourney title for the second year in a row.

Davenport has scored 30 and 32 in the first 2 games.

Marscillla Packer didn't start but came in after about 5 minutes and played fairly well. She might not be at full speed Monday night, but she should be OK for the NCAA tournament.

INDIANAPOLIS - Jessica Davenport scored a season-high 32 points, including all seven of Ohio State's points in overtime, to rally the No. 5 Buckeyes to a 73-71 victory over fifth-seeded Penn State in the Big Ten tournament semifinals Sunday.
Star Allen added 12 points and Marscilla Packer provided an inspirational lift with nine points in a surprise return from a sprained left ankle. Packer left Friday's quarterfinal victory twice and wasn't expected to play Sunday.

INDIANAPOLIS ? In the midst of the overtime swells that seemed to be willing Penn State to an upset of the top-seeded Ohio State women?s basketball team last night in the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament, Buckeyes center Jessica Davenport raised her left hand and called for the ball over and over again.
A lighthouse never looked so good. Her teammates threaded the ball inside the defense and rode the first three-time conference player of the year to a thrilling 73-71 overtime victory over the Nittany Lions in Conseco Fieldhouse.

Good to hear about Packer... they'll need her for the NCAA tournament.

Penn State must be shaking their heads looking at the stat sheet.

Penn State had 5 fewer turnovers.
Penn State had 11 more offensive rebounds.
Penn State made 2 more free throws.
Penn State made 4 more 3-point shots.
Penn State took 14 more shots from the field.
Penn State shot over 70% from the field in the second half (not counting OT).

It's hard to imagine losing a game with all of those stats on your side.

tOSU managed to shoot better from the field (60.8%) than from the free throw line (9 of 16 for 56.25%).
