Lavender makes Illinois blue Buckeyes' leader scores game-high 30 points and grabs 12 rebounds

COLUMBUS: Last year, Jantel Lavender was the Big Ten's player and freshman of the year ? the first time anyone has ever won both awards in the same season.
She's playing as if she wants to make that player of the year award the first of four.
Lavender, the conference's leader in both categories, had 30 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 19 Ohio State past Illinois 68-51 Thursday night.
''Hands down, Jantel Lavender is one of the best players not just in the Big Ten but in the country,'' Illinois coach Jolette Law said.
Lavender finished 15-of-24 from the field. The rest of the Buckeyes were just 14-of-36.
Lavender had 18 points at the half as the Buckeyes grabbed a 36-27 lead. Aggressively looking for shots and grabbing almost every available rebound, she made 9-of-15 shots and also had eight rebounds.
''I was taking my time and the shots were falling,'' said Lavender, a sophomore from Cleveland.
Jenna Smith had 19 points and Lydia McCully 11 for Illinois (4-16, 0-9), which lost its 10th in a row.

Tayler would certainly be a great addition to this talented group. Maybe the new uptempo Bucks are catching some recruits' eyes?

I think the majority of us who follow women's basketball pretty closely were aware of Ohio State's interest in her. I thought the best quote from the article considering the fact that she is many towards Texas, Duke, or Ohio State was the following.

"For mom and dad, I don't think she wants to go too far away," he said. "So this might be a plus for her to come here. One trip (for them) instead of two."

She would be a great get for Foster's program.

Last I heard about HIll...Right after the first of the year, was not good news in anyway...

It was basically a situation where they were willing to listen if she came to them, but they had no positive response from here after all the work they had put into her...

Obviously there could of been a change in the situation which would be a huge swing for us, and a huge pick up if we were to land her...

Your not saying that they were waiting for overtures from her that she wanted to be a Buckeye before they started recruiting her heavily are you or am I miss reading this

OSU had interest early but were told pretty clearly that she didn't want to go there. Tayler didn't sign early, has apparently reconsidered her priorities, and her brother has indicated that he thinks she might want to be a Buckeye. The staff is now actively pursuing this possibility. That's the way I read it.
