Recruiting gets a little hectic when you have more than 30 scholarships in hand like Terrence Alexander already does.
But the three-star cornerback from John Curtis High School in River Ridge, La. makes sure to handle all of the letters and phone calls on his terms.
?I tend to not let recruiting control (me), you?ve got to control recruiting,? Alexander said. ?I try not to let it interfere with my regular life, though sometimes it does. It?s not a bad interference though.?
It also doesn?t hurt that Alexander has multiple teammates going through the same situation. Wide receiver Malachi Dupre, linebacker Kenny Young and defensive back Mattrell McGraw all boast upwards of 30 scholarship offers.
The talented rising seniors are all in a group messaging chat and use it to talk about life, recruiting and even the possibility of all going to the same school together.
?We talk about ending up at the same place,? he said. ?We aren?t trying to get a package deal, but if that?s what happens, that?s what happens. We all have to go to the school with the best opportunities and find the biggest road for success for you as an individual.?
Alexander will travel to Ole Miss Friday to visit the school and get a tour of its campus. He doesn?t expect to participate in the program?s camp, though Alexander said the coaching staff has already told him he could do some big things his freshman year if he became a Rebel.
?Ole Miss said I have a chance to go out and either be a starter or be in the rotation,? he said. ?Maybe at the nickel position as a cornerback. Stanford has said the same thing.?
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect took notice of Ole Miss? recent recruiting success, but wants to see how it translates to success on the field. He said he?ll be watching to see how the program?s highly-regarded incoming recruits perform and are utilized in their freshman year.
Early impact as a freshman is a big factor in Alexander?s decision-making process.
?The system you are playing in is really important,? he said. ?I play zone at my school, but I prefer press coverage. I?m versatile in a combination of coverages. Also how much I like the coaching staff and how fast I can play. I want to have an impact as a true freshman.?
Alexander hasn?t narrowed down his long list of scholarship offers yet, but has started to put together a plan of schools he wants to visit. After Ole Miss he wants to visit Ohio State, Stanford and Georgia Tech. He said he might also go on a recruiting swing through Florida.
He hopes to have his list pared down to three or five schools by the end of the summer. He will then try to set up official visits with his finalists.
