Ohio State University (OSU) Kristina M. Johnson announced on Monday night that she will be stepping down as president of the university, effective next May, at the end of the current academic year. Johnson’s announcement confirmed a report of her resignation that had appeared in The Columbus Dispatch earlier in the day.
Her departure as OSU’s 16th president appears to have been prompted by the University’s Board of Trustees requesting that she resign, following an investigation conducted by an outside firm into concerns expressed by university staff. The details of that investigation remain vague at this time, and the university has not provided any further clarification of the circumstances surrounding Johnson’s decision.

No idea. As I said in her thread, my access to the inner sanctums has passed. The toxic workplace thing seems to make sense. Now we get to enjoy listening to ten thousand morons all braying for Jim Tressel to get the job.

I would guess that there was a deal for her to go quietly in exchange for the university keeping the reasons private.
The faculty seems very upset, and that doesn't surprise me. It's not uncommon in big multinational law firms for corner office type partners to treat other partners, and even associates with respect and professionalism, yet they'll turn on a dime and become toxic pieces of shit to a paralegal, secretary or some poor schlub from the mail room who's in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It wouldn't surprise me if she was cordial and professional to faculty (they're in her club plus she's usually dealing with senior full professor types, department chairs and research whales) and then turn into a monster around the underlings on her staff or some poor blue shirt there to fix the cable.
