Bob Huggins and Cincinnati officially ended their 16-year relationship Thursday, as the successful — and oftentimes controversial — coach received an emotional roast, which, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, attracted approximately 6,214 people to U.S. Bank Arena.
Among the roasters were current head coaches Rick Pitino (Louisville), Tubby Smith (Kentucky) and John Calipari (Memphis), as well as about 33 of Huggins' current and former players and video tributes from Michael Jordan, Dick Vitale and Cincinnati mayor Charlie Luken.
One former Bearcat standout in particular, current Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin, expressed great displeasure with the way the University of Cincinnati handled Huggins' firing.
He told the Cincinnati Enquirer that his personal affiliation with the University of Cincinnati is over and that he'd not only like his jersey to be un-retired, but he wants his name removed from his old locker and trophies, too.
Martin wasn't alone in his anger, as fans at the arena booed at any mention of Cincy President Nancy Zimpher's name with reference to the firing.
