Kent State - Ohio's 2nd Best Team

Next week's game is for all the marbles in the East...winner likely plays Northern Illinois (or Toledo) for the title. Sure does look like it's Kent's year, but BGSU is tough against the run.
Agreed. I saw BG play OU and I was really surprised with their defense. They are a pretty big defensive unit. I really can't see anyone beating Northern Illinois for the MAC championship.

Re: If Kent State is ranked in the Top 16 and they are ranked ahead of the Big East champion, the Golden Flashes would earn the automatic qualifier spot. The same could hold true of Northern Illinois if they beat Kent State and jumped in the rankings to the top 16, but is far less likely.

If Kent State (currently #17) beats NIU in the MAC CCG and Stanford beats UCLA (currently #16) in the PAC12 CCG it should happen. WOW it could put Kent State in the Orange Bowl.

The other two plausible scenarios would be if Wisconsin beats Nebraska (#12 but would certainly drop lower than 16 if they lose that game) or Georgia Tech beats Florida State (#13).

I had no idea it was that easy. If Hazell could get Kent in the BCS he could probably have his pick of any open job. It would seem like another win against a ranked NIU team might be enough to give them a bump in the BSC regardless of what everyone else does.

If either one of those MAC teams leapfrog a Big East team, life would be good:biggrin2:

No need to jump anyone from the Big East as there are none in the top 25..article was poorly written from that perspective.

Kent State sits at 17 right now. A win against No. Illinois on Friday will likely place Kent State inside the top 16 as they would only need a loss from UCLA (16), Florida State (13), or maybe even Nebraska (12) or Oklahoma (11) to clime one spot.

If No. Illinois wins, it is less likely they get an Orange Bowl bid as they are at 21 right now. Granted, they would jump Kent State, and Texas (18) is likely to fall to Kansas State, but Boise State (plays Nevada) and Michigan still sit above them.
