Considering that most years he has almost zero in-state talent to recruit, Sampson does a phenomenal job. Oklahoma reeled in a really good recruiting class this year, I wonder if many of them will ask for a release to go to Indiana. I wonder why the Hoosiers didn't go after Alford harder? Either way, excellent hire.
The guy has a .721 winning percentage and avgs over 23 wins a season.
What has Alford done at Iowa? He's the most overrated coach in the Big 10. If he wasn't such a "star" player, nobody would even care about him.
which is nice for Iowa, not for IU. They can't hold out for another Bob Knight, but the history is too rich for Alford iMO.2 Big 10 tourney titles, and a consistently competetive team in the Big 10, w/ zero recruiting base-although he gets those Iowa farm boys to play hard for him-Horner and Brunner, etc. The only real strike against him was his shameful handling of the Pierre Pierce situation.
So now we can all rest knowing that Thad is definately not going to IU.
Not calling you a liar....I just find this hard to believeHigh Lonesome said:sampson is one of the top 5 winningest coaches in d1 over the last ten years, i believe it is #3. he is a great coach and has a style much like that of tom izzo. That said, I can't stand the guy. His strange affinity for denim shirts should be enough to scratch him off your wish list
I do not believe it has been established that Alford didn't want the IU job.

Don't think that was ever on the table, hell, if Alford didn't want it, along with Few and others, why would he?
