Ok, I know exactly "shit" about boxing. About as much as I know about women. But Pavlik pushed this motherfucker around like a little bitch. This was for a title shot. It was "no contest" except for the end of the 3rd round IIRC. A complete and utter beatdown that was supposed to be a 12 rounder according to "those in the know". I grew up with "Boom Boom" Mancini and he was something us in Y-Town were proud of. Then, he killed the dude. It was a blow to all of us (Mancini is part of "us", never doubt). And Mancini never got over it. Anyway, I love you guys, I really do. But nothing makes me prouder than a hometown guy "making it". It's tough to be from the "asshole of Ohio" and I wish we weren't always looked at like that. We give you Tressel (no matter what Berea people say) and we want you people to know that we are more than just the "butt of the joke". That's fine if you think I'm whining. I'll wake up tomorrow and not even remember I typed this, but I will remember that we've got another world class athlete representing us in Y-Town. We hope he doesn't "get his Goose on", but we will still be proud. We had "OH-IO" cheers going on tonight for a boxing match!!! Give the Y-Town some love!!!!!

Memphis, Tenn.- Kelly Pavlik recorded the most significant win of his boxing career Saturday night by knocking out Edison Miranda in the seventh round of their middleweight bout at FedExForum.
Pavlik (31-0, 28 knockouts), a 25-year-old fighter from Youngstown and the WBC's top contender, twice sent Miranda (28-2, 24 KOs) tumbling to the canvas in the sixth round, then knocked him out with 1:54 left in the seventh.
With the win, Pavlik became the mandatory challenger to face middleweight champion Jermain Taylor - who outpointed Cory Spinks in a split decision in Saturday's main event - for the world title.

That's how Kelly Pavlik's electrifying victory against Edison Miranda on Saturday night in Memphis, Tenn., is already being phrased. And why not?
There was more power-packed action between these gutsy middleweights than on most fight cards. Make that three full shows. Heck, make it five.

Great fight-Pavlik had a plan and forced it upon miranda w/ a vengeance. If Miranda learns some D, he will have another title shot. Then again, after the hell Miranda went through as a kid-orphaned and homeless at 10 years old in Colombia-he is a winner making it this far.
Pavlik-Taylor will be an interesting fight, but Pavlik will not be able to bully Taylor into the ropes like he did Miranda. Taylor is a puncher, but he does his damage from long distance, and can use his athleticism to keep a clear distance between himself and his opponents-if Pavlik tries to get close, it could be ugly.

The sport just jumped up and skipped out of the intensive care unit, and it's picking up speed. The Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather bout helped, even though HBO's two-headed dolt ? Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant ? tried to convince viewers that excellent defense is bad for the sport.

Lou DiBella said it is going to happen.
The promoter for WBC middleweight champion Jermain Taylor was more than optimistic that terms would be reached, sooner rather than later, for his fighter to take on No. 1 challenger Kelly Pavlik of Youngstown.
"I think Jermain and Kelly are the two best middleweights out there and I'd be very surprised if it's not the next fight," said DiBella, during a phone conversation from New York. "I've talked with [Pavlik's promoter] Bob Arum and we're almost on the same page. There are some details to work out with HBO."

Pavlik will get his shot

YOUNGSTOWN ? As Kelly Pavlik was working his way through the middleweight ranks, knocking out pretty much everyone in his path, there were a few times he wondered whether he'd ever get his shot.
He doesn't have to wonder any longer.
The South Sider (31-0, 28 KOs) will fight WBC champion Jermain Taylor (27-0-1, 17 KOs) for the title Sept. 29 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The fight will be televised nationally on HBO.
"It's done," said Pavlik's co-manager, Cameron Dunkin. "Nothing has been signed because there's still a few details to be ironed out, but we're ready to go."
Top Rank president Bob Arum, whose organization represents Pavlik, is vacationing in Europe but has reached an agreement with Taylor's manager, Lou DiBella.

One of Pavliks 'people' said on the radio today that HBO is going to do a similar program with Kelly that they did with Oscar D, where the cameras followed both fighters wherever they went, then aired it as a special leading up to the fight.

Youngstown- The Southside Boxing Club is so small, some of the boxers have to use the sidewalk on Erie Street to skip rope. The onetime pizza shop, measuring some 30-by-90 feet, is about as fancy as a plain pie in a card board box.
That's the way Kelly Pavlik likes it.
While the gym's walls are covered with pictures and posters of Youngstown's famous fighter, they serve as plaster and paint as much as hype and hope. Since Pavlik began coming to the gym at age 9, it has been more workplace than museum.
