i was at Greenwood Chevy in Youngstown buying the wife a new trailblazer last night and Kelly was there signing stuff and meeting people, he is a VERY down to earth guy, talked to my wife and I for a good 10 minute while we were waiting and played with our kiddo to, great to see that what he has accomplished hasn't changed him as a person.

Pavlik awaits Taylor

Wednesday, December 12, 2007 Joe Maxse

Plain Dealer Reporter
The first time Kelly Pavlik sees Jermain Taylor again will be February in Las Vegas. It was supposed to be Tuesday in New York at a press conference hyping their rematch, but Taylor was a no-show because his wife gave birth to a girl on Monday.
Pavlik, who claimed Taylor's World Boxing Council middleweight title with a stirring seventh-round stoppage in Atlantic City, N.J., on Sept. 29, wished his opponent well on the new baby, but not on their Feb. 16 non-title bout at the MGM Grand.
"I'm not surprised he wanted the rematch, but I am that he wanted it so soon," said Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs), who cannot weigh more than 166 pounds for this one. "I guess he had the excuse about the weight [160 pounds] in the first one. It's going to favor me. I'm going to be sharper and stronger."

Taylor will take new way to train

Monday, December 17, 2007
Jermain Taylor missed last week's New York press conference to hype his rematch against Youngstown's Kelly Pavlik in Las Vegas on Feb. 16. Taylor stayed in Little Rock, Ark., to be with his wife, Erica, for the birth of their third child.
Taylor, who relinquished his WBC and WBO middleweight titles when Pavlik clocked him for the count in the seventh round Sept. 29, did weigh in on the return bout via a conference call.
"I made a lot of mistakes in that fight," said Taylor, who invoked his right for a rematch at the catch weight of 166 pounds. "I'm not making any excuses, but I'll make up for it the next time."

Just finished watching the Taylor-Pavlik fight. Came away impressed. Pavlik never looked phased by Taylor's attacks even when he got knocked down. I don't really know much about boxing but I do know that there's a rematch in the works for about a month from now. Mayweather is currently scheduled to fight De La Hoya in September I believe. Any chance we see a Pavlik/Mayweather fight down the road at light middleweight?

I'm not sure about Mayweather looking for Taylor or Pavlik. Those guys would both have a huge weight/strength factor against Floyd. Word is De La Hoya wants Floyd in 2008, which would be another HUGE pay day for Floyd, and a pretty easy win.

If Joe Calzaghe beats Hopkins, assuming that fight gets done, there will be a lot of clamoring for Floyd to take on Calzaghe. Basically, a potential Kelly Pavlik fight wouldn't be viable until 2009 or so IMO. Who knows how much longer Floyd wants to fight, and what happend between now and then with all of these other guys.

Floyd Mayweather could/would never step into the ring with Joe C. because of the weight differential. Mayweather is the greatest fighter on the planet pound for pound, but that matchup would be like pavlik fighting at heavyweight. Some matchups would be nice to see but they are just not doable.
